decided to try a last ditch effort with high dose clomid for 10 days with prednisone because my RE is 1.5 hours away, and the frequent visits (at least a 4 hour round trip) for monitoring the injectables several times a week would have been really hard on me. and surprisingly, it worked.
Congratuatlions DD56! Do you think the prednisone helped?

Diagnosed with PCOS in 2002. Some cysts and high DHEAS. Was on BCP for 7 years (I adore yasmin). Now I am on no medication becasue I want ttc.
I recently started taking vitamins: A, D, B Complex, Folic Acid and Fish Oil
I also aim for a very low sugar and almost no simple carb diet. I run a couple times a week.
I have no idea if the prednisone helped. It was supposed to suppress the adrenal gland to produce less androgens, but it was only 5mg for 10 days, a pretty small dose for a short time. Maybe it did, maybe it was just the high dose clomid.

Find out tomorrow whether it worked, am waiting for beta hcg results to come back. I missed three calls from the nurse today so have to wait till tomorrow!

I did two rounds of clomid with nothing. My doctor wants me to go on Met and try one more round of Clomid but I am hesitant because of how long I hear Met takes to actually be effective. I would like to try lezarole instead.
I will say that I did three rounds of clomid alone with no luck. With my IUI it was clomid, plus met, plus synthroid and trigger. Because I got a BFP the second time on met alone, I tend to think that for me, adding met and getting my thyroid in balance were key. Met did not take long at all to make a difference for me, but it really is different for everyone and for some met also seems to make no difference at all.

I tried Femara first because of all the negative things I'd heard about clomid and thin PCOS. It worked for me the first time on the lowest dose (I ovulated, no pregnancy), and then not again despite increasing the dose. I faild to respond to it 3 times. So, I'll be trying clomid this cycle. I'm going to take in days1-4. Apparently there was a study done that showed that the ovulation rates were the same taking it days 1-4 as 3-7 or 5-9, but higher pregnancy rates in the 1-4 group. The idea is that you get a wash out period prior to ovulation so your estrogen can increase appopriately. I'm also going to do an IUI to try to get around the lack of cervical mucous issue.
We'll see how it goes. If this cycle fails, I'm doing ovarian drilling in January.
I did 50mg clomid and produced 1 dominant follicle on day 17 (17mm). By today (day 19) it had grown to 18.5 mm. I had my own LH surge today (122 mIU/mL) and the doctor told me to trigger with HCG anyways just to make sure that the egg pops out. Hopefully it will work...
My doctor monitors me with ultrasound (day 10, 17, 19), bloodwork as needed, and urine LH strips starting from day 10. Use each cycle to try and find out what is the underlying problem, what you respond to, and what you don't respond to, what your hormones are doing. I don't believe in blindly receiving clomid and increasing the dose if you don't get BFP because there are about 10 things that can go wrong with the process.
Good luck to all trying clomid!

I just wanted to let you know that I'm a 27 yr old thin cyster (5'2", 109lbs), and I just started Metformin 500mg twice daily in August. Within 23 days I had a natural period w/o the use of any meds. I began clomid 50mg CD5-9 + metformin for my first clomid cycle. I produced 1 follicle, but AF showed up. My 2nd cycle included clomid 100mg CD5-9 and metformin, and I just found out today that I am pregnant. I had a BFP!!! So, it does work. It took me 2 cycles with the clomid and metformin combo.

Congrats PharmD Cyster! You have given me hope that my first round of clomid + met just may work

I am in my first cycle of clomid,I took 50 mg and it would seem I ovulated about a week after my last pill - no trigger shot or anything. I am 5'2" and weigh 115 and rarely get a period on my own... before the clomid I had gone 9 months! Here's my chart from fertilityfriend.com so you can see my temps: http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/277287
I had positive OPK's on the weekend before my temps went up so I am fairly certain it worked. So it can definitely happen, even if you're thin and almost never get your period on your own. I go in to see my doctor Nov. 18 for bloodwork to confirm O and check for pregnancy! If no BFP hopefully 50 mg works again!
Congratulations to all those having success with clomid! I can't wait to get started--I have an appt with my OB in a week and hopefully she'll give me the script then!
Also have an appt with my endo in a week--I expect her to refer me to an RE since this Met doesn't seem to do sh*t for me.
I hope I get pregnant soon--and I hope you ladies do as well!
Me too, I hope we all get pregnant. My hormones have stabalized quite a but from BCP and now off it 3 months they are staying pretty good. I have a regular 27 day cycle and am charting my temperatue and everything looks great except low FSH which clomid supposedly helps with.
I heard sometimes the BCP can lower FSH. Anyone have this issue?
My husband has real poor sperm morphology and other issues so I am hesitant to start any demanding fertility drugs besides just charting becasue it may just be his sperm can't fertilize the egg and then the clomid would be for nothing. Even with low FSH my charts and progesterone test show I ovulated every month off BCP - but still no pregnancy.

I'm on my 2nd round of 50 mg. of clomid. I did O the first round, I just didn't know it b/c I couldn't read the darn OPKs!!! My BW confirmed. I didn't get a BFP, as AF came on her own like clockwork!!! (First time in 6 mos!) So, I was able to start my 2nd cycle quickly w/ no provera!
I got a +OPK yesterday - CD 15. I'm ecstatic!!!! We BDd last night and will for the next few days like fools! ha! I have a lot of "activity" going on in my pelvic area...my ovaries are pinching and sometimes stabbing pain. I also have lower back pain, so I'm thinking things are working, or at least attempting to work, which is also encouraging to me.
I'm glad others are having some luck w/ clomid too!!! My fingers are crossed for everyone!!!!!
