Default Thin cysters with IR - what are your symptoms?

I am a thin cyster with absolutely no PCOS symptoms besides the classic string of pearls on my ovaries and irregular/no ovulation/periods. I was never tested for IR, but I am starting to think that there might be a connection.

To my knowledge there are some of us thin cysters out there who are IR and are taking metformin. What are your symptoms and do you feel better on the met?

I guess I am just trying to find out if it is possible for me to be IR and if I should ask to get tested .....

thanks for your help ~

Met has helped a lot of women get pregnant. Even though you might not have the weight issue your hormones still could be messed up which is causing you not to ovulate and gives you a higher percentage of miscarry. The normal female has a 15% chance of miscarry. Those of us with PCOS have a 30% chance. Met would bring you back down tothat 15%. Talk to your dr. about it. Lots of women get their periods and ovlulate regularily on it! Good luck to you!

Thanks for your reply.

I will definitely ask for met during my next appointment. In the meantime I will read the IR diet book and try to stick to it as good as I can.

My blood tests came back "normal" but I had symptoms of being IR and my OBGYN put me on metformin anyway because it is shown to help those who have pcos regardless of being IR or not. It did help me get pg the first month I was on it (it was my 5th month of Clomid also but I know it was the met because all those other 4 months of Clomid had no results). I have some of the effects of pcos but mine are mild comparatively speaking. I have bad acne, mild hair growth...like just a couple on my chin and I do have to shave my legs everyday, and I am thin but I started to gain in my tummy when my pcos started getting bad. Before that I had no symptoms really. Good luck!

I forgot to add, I had a previous m/c and my ob decided to keep me on it for the first trimester to help prevent another. It is FDA approved for use during pg (but not breastfeeding) so if you can, I would stay on it for the first 12 weeks just in case. Good luck!!!

Thanks again for the info, Mandy!
I have also read somewhere that it actually promotes implantation! Hopefully my doc will prescribe me the gluc during my next appointment.
