Tummy - so sorry to hear about your ectopic. So strange you felt there was a high chance of it happening. I'm sorry it ended up being true, but glad to hear the procedure went well.

Hi to everyone else! So many posts these last couple of days!

Well, I did have my second opinion this AM. What an AMAZING appointment, and a real eye-opener. I'll try to spare you some of the gorey details but we discussed my hypothalamic pituitary disfunction (I essentially don't make FSH and LH, thus why Provera or Clomid won't work on me and why I DO NEED gonadatrophic therapy, but MENAPUR is what is the best for me) and essentially my uterus is completely "shut down" due to me having hardly any amount of estrogen floating around as well as being on the pill for 15+ years. He took one look at my IVF charts, and was flored that they proceeded with my endomtrium lining at 5.2 mm and under (4.7 mm my last time). Obviously something is wrong, since I had over 2000 level of estrogen with such a thin lining. Also, because I overstimmed every time (even though side effects not bad the last time), he cited studies that show this leads to chromosonal fractures, thus my relatively poor embyro quality. He did say for my age I did resond well, so that is promising in that department.

He is pretty "old school" and wants to get to the core of my issue, which involves different protocols and monitoring - probably a 10 week process. After a couple of hours discussion and evaluation, I have decided to go with for treatment to get my uterus back in shape. It will not be an overnight process, since I will be starting a cycle brought on by a series of estrogen pills, progesterone suppositories and then vaginal estrogen cream. After this, my uterus should be more receptive to a hysteroscopy and most likely a surgical procedure called "plowing" to help bring back the lining growth. After this surgery, I will get large doses of estrogen for healing, and then go through a mock cycle to see how my body reacts, to be confident I will be ready for a stimulated cycle (with estrogen and low doses of gonadatrophins). He flat out said he wants to look me straight in the eye and tell me that my body is ready, and obviously it was not earlier. At that point down the road, he will perform an HSG to confirm my tubes are clear, so I can either try naturally/with IUI or go back to IVF. I guess I will see how I feel after the mock cycle.

I did ask about acupuncture, and he thinks that is a good idea as well. Not suprisingly, he recommended I get back on Metformin, starting at 500 mg going to 1000 mg. No more needed for my body weight, he said. Since the metabolic process within the ovaries is not well understood, especially with people with PCOS, he said it would not hurt to get back on, to help increase the chance of better egg quality.

I am really glad I went for this second opinion. He confirmed that my condition is not very common for thin women like me (or actually it is not uncommon for a low body fat athlete or someone with anorexia, neither of which I am) so the standard gonadatrophin protocols are not the way to proceed, especially with my uterus "lagging behind."

I'm not sure what my current RE would have recommended, but she obviously was not going down the path of figuring out why my uterus was not as receptive as it should be. If IVF looks like the best thing for me down the road, he said it would be fine as long as my uterus was receptive. Not sure how the referral back and forth goes, but I'll figure it out later.

Sorry for all the detail, but I really got a lot out of the appointment. Maybe with all the wait, Tummy and I will end up having similar timing down the road...

Wow, Txan, he sounds really thorough. I'm impressed! I didn't realize that about your lining. I'm afraid I have some lining issues, too, and will be asking my dr about that at post-op. That protocol sounds really long and involved, but I'm glad he's got a plan for your uterus! You'll have to keep us posted as you go along.

Doolin/Laura/Stef -- thanks for the info about the shoulder pain. I'm trying to get up and walk around every hour or so, but it's most comfortable to just recline on the couch! I don't like the side effects of Vicoden, but I took 1/2 of one last night to sleep. Otherwise I'm trying to stick to Ibuprofen.

Tummy--i'm so sad to hear that you had an ectopic, i was really hoping for good news for you. it is great news that your tube looks good, though. i am wishing you all the best for the future and that your next try ends up in a sticky pregnancy in the right spot.

hi ladies- just checking-in. i have a major sinus headache today and can barely think so i'm struggling to get through the work day. i had my day 3 b/w and ultrasound this morning and i start injectables tonight. i started reading this book, hannah's Hope last night and it really is touching me. i went to God in deep prayer last night and am really finding some peace. my really good news is that my nurse gave me another 1200IU (more than enough for one cycle) of follistim. i can do a 3rd round if i need to and i am so happy. now, i hope i don't need to do a 3rd round! i will be back for full personals laters but for now,

deb- i'm sorry that AF showed, but it probably means you O'd which is a great thing. maybe the clomid just screwed up your temps.

pikachu- i hope the OV watch is correct!

tummy- how are you? i can't stop thinking about you. i hope you're healing quickly and that the gas and shoulder pain goes away.

hi everyone. i'll be back later.

Tummy- I'm so sorry that it ended up being ectopic, but good news that they were able to save your tube. I didn't have shoulder pain after my lap., but did have pretty bad gas pain in my abdomen for a couple of days afterward. It helped to walk, and I also found it very helpful to use a heating pad. I was prescribed Percocet, so I can't comment on the Vicoden side effects. I was able to completely control my pain with Ibuprofen after two days, so hang in there!

TXan- That's great that you got so much useful information from your appointment. Too bad that you'll have to wait to get back to ttc, but good that you now know why you've had trouble with IVF. It sounds encouraging to me

Pikachu - yay for fertile day 1. Yes, I never get AF on my own..usually only provera and without it, never-ending cycles..so it should be a step in the right direction, I hope.

Stacey - I really think that the clomid made my temps artificially high after CD8, which is why it looked like I could have O'd..but the peaks and OPK results jived with my CD15 temp rise. My monitor wasn't even asking for sticks on CD8...if I do another, it will be asking right away since my cycle was so short.

Heartcore - you are right, but it seems like my OB is too busy delivering babies to do anything else.

Rywaller - yucky s/e.

Keo - OPKs are so confusing..especially cheapies. I really have a hard time thinking I could O on CD8..I mean, I never O, so it seems unlikely since the clomid couldn't have worked that fast..I really think it was the clomid causing those temps..but guess I'll never know.

Doolin - Hopefully my Dr will call back in time for me to get my clomid. Why would my FM and OPK's give me peaks and a temp drop on CD14 if I O'd on CD8 though..ugh.

Whitney - The FF expert thinks I O'd on CD14..but who the heck knows. It'll be hard to catch an egg on CD8.

Stef - Could clomid really cause an O on CD8 though? I hope your 2ww goes fast

Thanks Deb. I hope your doctor can make some sense out of your chart. Maybe it will be as simple as adding progesterone during your LP.

Deb -- I don't know either. But great that you started AF so at least you know there was an O in there somewhere!

Keo -- have a great weekend/week. We'll miss you

Thanks everyone for thinking of me. I've spent a lot of time today looking up stuff about IVF and I think I'm mentally ready for it. I am feeling okay about the loss, but of course terrified of it happening again. A m/c would have been preferable. Perhaps next time if it does happen we'll catch it before it's symptomatic so I could avoid surgery. My dr said this wasn't very far from rupturing -- maybe a couple of days away, so glad we chose surgery this time around. Since I was having so much pain it was a pretty obvious choice. Anyway, I'm healing and hoping for a better day tomorrow.

TXan - geez, that is an amaaaaazing 2nd opinion. This is the semi-retired one, right? You got so much info that I feel like you must have beenthere for hours and hours. I love that EVERYTHING is going to be addressed this time around -- there is no sense in moving forward to IVF3 in less than ideal circumstances. I really do keep you in my thoughts and prayers. This all sounds so daunting, but I have confidence that you have the wherewithall to stick with it and be successful. I know it's just a gut feeling, but I have faith.

Whitney - thank GOD you had the surgery when you did and that you stayed on top of it as much as you did. Your vigilance saved your tube. I hope the gas pain goes quickly -- I think mine stuck around for so long b/c I could really move at all for about 4 or 5 days. If you're able to move around, you're better off.

Deb - the bottom line is that you o'd and I agree it would downright bizarre that you could o while still taking the pills. I hope next cycle is clearer. Good luck!

Relka and Keo - thinking of you girls. I was at the bohemian beer garden tonight ... such a beautiful evening after such a threatening day! We're off to NH tomorrow for my neph's 1st communion, so see you all next week!
