I am 5' 8 and weigh roughly 145 lbs. I have been ttc for about 4 years. I am currently on my tww and can't wait for it to be over!!!
So far I have loved being on Femara. With just 10 pills i had one big fat follicle and that is the most encouraging thing ever. Even if i don't get pregnant on it, I still know that i will be able to grow a follicle!!!! I am clomid resistant and my ex-RE pushed me into IVF (she gave me the impression that was the only thing that would work for me) and I was so not ready for that - and although I got pregnant, I miscarried at 5weeks. I have been in so much anguish since then and after taking a break from my treatments for two years, I found a new wonderful Dr. who introduced me to Femara and I thank God for that!!!
I used to be on Metformin before but i found that it made me feel really lethargic and depressed. I used to want to sleep all the time, had no motivation to do anything and felt so yucky. I have a friend who was also in Met but it never bothered her. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced these side effects from Met. I have currently stopped taking it.
Its so nice to be able to share your feelings and experiences here where everyone is also going through similar things and actually UNDERSTANDS. Also I have found that a lot of questions that really bother me get answered here and everyone is so comforting..... thanks girls!!!
I wish everyone a lot of luck and soon we will all meet in the mommyboard.... heheh..

Sunnyflower, do you remember what kind of Met you were on? Regular or the extended release (ER). I've had very good luck with the ER...no side affects except the good ones!
Good luck this month, hopefully you won't need the Met!

sunnyflower - hello and welcome to our group! I took regular Metformin 2000mg. for 2 years a while back and I remember being pretty tired on it, but not much else. I have just started Metformin again and I started with the (ER) version and thought i would die, i was so nauseous and sick, but they switched to the regular Met and all is good now, just started taking 1500mg. so hoping it stays that way. I have noticed that I don't crave sugar as much and I am a little extra tired, but nothing I can't handle. I do know alot of people that do better on the ER version vs. the regular, not sure which one you were on! I'm still waiting on af, so I can have my HSG test done and get ready for a cycle of injects/IUI, which i am praying will work the first time, as I don't have much money!! Good luck to you and I hope you get your bfp this month!

Sorry I'm posting on my mobile, so if this shows up weird that's why. I started taking DCI almost 2 months ago and went on strict low-GI diet at the same time. I dropped about 5 lbs right away which was a little alarming since I didn't really have it to lose. No results after a month so I started Met. Talk about miserable! I'm counting the days until my next appt because this has been so awful. Right now I'm really discouraged because I've had all side effects and no benefits. If nothing changes by mid-Oct (my appt), I'm considering going back to BCP and my normal life.
Marking my spot. I am 5 foot even and weigh 110lb. I was diagnosed 6 years ago. My periods stopped at age 16 but was put on BCP to mask the problem.Once diagnosed I started clomid and conceived my first 2 kids on 100mg of clomid. After my second son was born I started going the natural route with vitex. Which worked great I started having my period every 60 days and ovulated but not a strong enough O. I know I o'ed because I chart and use cbefm. We are currently trying to conceive our 3rd child but 100 mg is not working. I have a call into the doc to see whats next. I pray many baby blessing over all of you!!!!
Hello ladies! I am so glad that this post cropped up, I think it will be good for me to start posting again. Last night I cried and cried, trying to not let my husband notice because I don't want him to get all depressed too..I am just so scared that I won't be able to give us the family we want SO badly. I have these lows every once in a while...sometimes I am optimistic and other times I feel like I am doomed to be infertile. I know you guys are all feeling the same scared feelings so I guess I don't need to elaborate further on how painful all of this is. We have been TTC since April but I have only ovulated once since then. I do all the monitoring...I attempt to use the Clearblue monitor (I reset it when it stops asking for sticks)...I use a saliva microscope and OPKs, I've also used natural progesterone cream to bring on my period. I have been waiting and waiting to see an OB/gyn, won't get in until Sept 28th. Until then I have been just taking femaprin and cinnamon and prenatals. ..trying to lose a few pounds. That's all!
denverdani - don't give up. I know how hard it is. I was so miserable on the Metformin for about the first 3 weeks, but i have just started on week 5 and i am feeling much better, it does take time. If for some reason you cannot tolerate Met I know several other cysters who do not take it or take some other type of medicine, so don't let it get you down! I do know what you mean about going back on bcp and feeling normal again though, so much less to worry about!
debwoodward - that is awesome that clomid help you conceive your first 2 children, sorry it's not working now. Have you asked about trying Femara? I know lots of ladies this works for when clomid didn't, and since you've had success in the past it might very well help you also!
Elly - So sorry about your frustrations. I know how hard it is. We are here whenever you need to vent. Hope you get a bfp very soon!

I am5'8 and about 130. DX in April 09, but It took a few months to really believe, research, and understand PCOS. Started Met 4.5 weeks ago, along with Femaprin (vitex) and DCI 2.5 weeks ago. I wanted to see if I could O using the supplements and Met combination.
I have bloodwork appointment tomorrow to see if the testosterone levels have gone down from this combination.
I also have an appointment with an RE at the end of the month so I'm hoping the bloodwork will show I'm goign in the right direction, but if not, I want to do Femara and skip clomid altogether (did one round of clomid unmonitored and didnt O).
The journey has certainly been emotionally draining and scary and sad and many other emotions i'm sure everyone is experiencing.
Here hoping that everyone ends up with BFP's like Sharky (who gave me hope when I first stated Met 4.5 weeks ago).
Hey Cleo, welcome! so glad you joined us! I know how stressful it can be when ttc, but we have each other and our time will come and i hope it's very soon! Hopefully you will get your bfp soon, keep us posted!

Elly--don't lose hope! It's way too early for that! The statistics for getting pregnant with PCOS are SO in our favor! The 28th will be here before you know it, and there are so many options for you--be prepared to talk about all of them with your doctor! Are you having lab tests ahead of time? From my research, Metformin and/or Clomid seem to be the drugs most docs use first. Keep reading all the success stories on this website--I'm addicted! Can't wait to hear how your appointment goes!

Hey Elly it does get frustrating and it's hard not to let it get to you. I have had days all I want to do is cry there are some days that I am fine. I have 1 ds who I call my miracle baby seeing his cute face just makes all the frustrations go away for the time being. I know it's hard but keep your head up. Find something that will help take your mind off of it for a while. While ttc#1 I took up scrapbooking it helped me unwind even baking a cake made me fill better.
Gracie I know you mentioned IUI are you going to be starting that this month?
Welcome to runner, cleo, deb, denver and sunny hopefully we will all be able to share our stories and help one another along.

Hey ladies - hope you don't mind but I have to jump on board with you all! And finding this thread couldn't have happened at a better time! I am feeling much like you - Elly in PA - lately! Just as you said - we all know the frustrations of what we are all going through! Some days I just want to throw in the towel - but then I think about why we are going through this and just hold out hope that one day I will be the lucky one! Almost every month after the dreaded 2ww is over and just feel so overwhelmed with it all. And 99% of the time a few tears are shed and it starts all over again. I am 29, 5'11" and 145 lbs. I was diagnosed with PCOS back in January 09, but we have been ttc since about October 08. I have been on Metformin for 3 months. When I was diagnosed with PCOS, I immediately started charting and using OPKs. From my charts and OPKs, I am definitely ovulating and my ob seems to agree. At my last appointment she said she actually couldn't believe that I wasn't pregnant yet. Which really concerns me in some ways - I have never had an ultra sound or any other types of tests. All my ob did was send me in for blood work and from that she said I have PCOS. I don't have any other symptoms - except for the irregular/longer cycles. I switched my diet to low GI in January and regulated my cycles to 28-32 days. Now I am on the Metformin and one cycle was 26 days. She said the next step would possibly be Clomid. But if I am ovulating - do I need Clomid? Any other advice on what else could be going on? This may be TMI - but I do seem to have really mild yeast infections right after my period each month. My ob said that it is probably from the change in hormones each month after your period. I think it is strange and annoying but have read that can be a sign of diabetes. Any guidance there? Sorry - little more questions that just around TTC.
I am so happy to have a thread to talk to you girls about this - it is so incredibly hard to talk to people about it. I take a break sometimes from reading about PCOs and the boards because I do get stressed out. But lately I think I need to vent. I actually really don't talk to anyone because pretty much all of my friends have babies (after trying for 2 or 3 months) and they simply don't understand what this process is like! Even my mom doesn't understand - she had 4 kids - 3 were accidents! My husband is the best and is incredibly patient and understanding - and is trying to help so I don't feel so alone.
Best wishes to you all that are ttc - it will happen for us soon!
If you are ovulating, I would recommend a few things. Has your husband had all his numbers tested? The problem may not be only on your side. You may want to visit a reproductive endocronoligst who can do further testing to make sure your tubes are not blocked, no scar tissue, that your cervical fluids are not hostile to your husband's sperm...
However, the fact that you are ovulating is a good sign and is already a big step in the right direction. For many of us, that in itself is the hardest part, so you may already be one step ahead.

Thanks CLEO19!
My husband actually did get tested about a month ago! Everything came back normal for him. He has actually tried to eat healthier and drink less - figured anything and everything could help.
How do you go about finding an RE? Did you get a referral from your OBGYN? Those are all great suggestions to get tested and things that I often worry about. I would just like to know if it is just that we need more time or if there are other things going on!
