SLD32, how long do you know for sure you have been ovulating? Do you know for a fact that you are timing BD properly?
If yes, then I would invest the time and money to go see a specialist. If you arent sure, then it may just be a timing thing thats preventing your BFP
.
On the best case scenario, you have an approximately 5 day window each month to get pregnant, but that depends on how fertile you are (i.e. how much cervical fluids you produce to keep the sperm alive) and how strong your husband's sperm are (to stay alive depending on how close to O you are timing BD). I read the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" which gives you great information on how to time properly.
Anyways, if you do know that you are O'ing, and timing properly, there may be other underlying issues that you should investigate with an RE. I found one on my insurance company's website, and another was recommended to me by my Ob/gyn. Depends on your coverage.
Hey SLD32, I know just how you feel! We tried for 2 years back in 2003-04, then took a LONG break and just started again this past month. I do not ovulate at all, not sure I ever have. I am now starting Provera tonight and hopefully af will come along so I can get the HSG test out of the way, that will be a relief. If you are ovulating I would def go to a reproductive endocronoligst like Cleo said, so you can get everything checked out! Best of luck to you! Hope we all get our bfp's very soon!

Hey Cleo19!
I have been ovulating since January/February which is when I started charting. Before that I wasn't charting or anything - just trying to estimate the best time of the month which was hard - that is when my cycles were out of wack. But in January, I started using OPKs - get a positive and then my temperature would spike 1 to 2 days later and stay high for an average of 14 days. Some months we have been better than others but for the most part we have been pretty good with timing - I think! His doctor did suggest to just go ahead and start at day 10 and bd every other day until day 20. Thought that might help! Some months it seems that I do have very fertile cervical fluid but then other months I don't think so - I got some pre-seed to see if that will help.
Does an RE only see you have a certain period of time of ttc? I read somewhere they tell you to ttc for 12 months if you are under 35 - and if no success to seek help. We are getting close to that but I am kind of sick of waiting or wondering if it is something else - just want to know - you know?

Hey gracie381! We have been ttc for almost a year - it is so hard! I don't know how you got through 2 years! I took a break last month from charting because I couldn't deal with the constant reminder every morning of what we were going through. I still had to take the meds every day, etc. But it gave me a little sanity back! I am sorry to hear you do not ovulate at all - I know that must be so frustrating. It appears that I do - but who knows! Good luck with starting the Provera tonight. What exactly is that? And what is the HSG test?
Best of luck to you too - fingers crossed for us all!
SLD32 - the Provera is progestrone to help me start af. Since i never have af unless i take it or i am on bcp. I usually take Prometrium, which is another form of the medicine, so this is my first time on Provera. Hope i start soon. HSG is the test where they run the dye up through your tubes to make sure they are clear. I'm nervous about it, but really looking forward to seeing the results. Hope all is clear, so we can move on to the next step!

Gracie- Don't be nervous about the HSG! It really is not too bad at all. You feel it, but it is not really painful. The worst part is when the dye comes back out for a couple of days and that is just nasty, not painful. Just think of it as another step to get you closer to the right treatment option and getting pregnant!
How long did you take Metformin before your cycles regulated? Or were you always getting periods?
Its totally your choice, but if it were me, I would want to waste any more time if I didnt get results after 12 months unassisted.
One of my friends recently got pregnant without meds just going into the doctor's office frequently and doing ultrasounds so they could tell her when she was in fact going to ovulate.
If your cycles are 28 days, you are probably ovulating around day 14. However, if they are 35 days, you could be ovulating on day 21. Also, are you BD'ing every day from day 10 to 20? Some docs say that the quality of the sperm actually goes down if you do it every single day and that every other day may be better.
kbeggs - thanks for the words of encouragement! I hope it all goes over well and i get the all clear, just one less thing to worry about!

SHARKY - i was just rereading all the posts and since i am new here it was overwhelming at first so i didn't realize earlier that you got your BFP!! I am soooooooooooooo happy for you and wish you all the best!!!!! Also the next time i go to see my dr. i shall mention the slow release Met and ask him to let me try it out. I am surprised he never mentioned it to me.
Gracie, if my test is -ve tommorrow then i will be taking the month off too and starting injectibles and IUI in November. So i guess we will pretty much be doing it around the same time............ a little company never hurts.
Elly and SLD32 (and everyone else who is feeling a little low) - I know how hard it is because i go thru the same thing every single day. There is only that much you can talk to ppl and after a while they think you just need to get over it. Nobody understands the frustrations and constant highs and lows of what our situation puts us in. But I'm right there with you and all I can say is that you can't give up so easily. You're in this because you are a winner and there is so much that you have still not tried and so much hope so put your chin up and face the world....
thanks you all so much once again for being here in this lovely forum.

I have a question for you ladies..did your ob put you on met when you were diagnosed with pcos or when you started ttc? When I was ttc #1 my doc put me on it while ttc. I am since then moved and had to switch ob's. Now ttc #2 this ob just put me on clomid and not met. I have been wondering if I should ask him for met. I did mention to him I had been on both when ttc #1. Should I give it a few months of just clomid to see if that works?
Gracie hopefully af will show shortly and you will be able to get your hsg over with. I will be keeping you in my prayers I am sure it will go great.
Welcome sld2, kbegs and cleo19...if I missed any welcome to all..sending you all lots of baby dust.
Afm-Af came today which has made me a little down but now waiting to start round 2 of clomid.

Ok so I had a mini meltdown tonight. I took Clomid this cycle and didn't grow any follicles. Not even an itty bitty one. I've been on the Metformin for 3 months now and no ovulation. No AF either, for the last year, unless I'm taking Provera. Tonight the cat's automatic kitty litter box stopped working. I was on my hands and knees digging around cat poop trying to fix it and I just started BAWLING. I'm so.....angry. I find myself lashing out at DH for everything.
Gracie, I'm like you - I don't ovulate on my own. Ever. I work out so hard and eat healthy foods. I really go the extra mile to take care of my body but it's not taking care of me in return. (btw I didn't respond to Prometrium either, I have to use Provera and Estradiol).
I'm mad. I'm so angry and I'm in a "life-isn't-fair-mood" tonight. All the women in my family are fertile and have had kids into their forties. This is so, so very lonely. I'm so grateful for this website and my heart aches for all the girls here. Thank you all for posting here, even if I don't write much. I read this all the time and it's reassuring to know I'm not alone.
Sunny, I'm eager to hear how the testing goes for you.
Sorry Melly sending you a hug (sorry still trying to figure out how to insert hugs) It's so hard to see everybody around you pregnant. I had many many meltdowns while ttc#1. I cried month after month but once my ds was born every tear I cried every bit of hurt I felt left because I had my long awaited miracle. You...all of us will get bfp's the journey there just isn't easy. I have been down myself today and I try to keep reminding myself God will grant me this precious gift when he sees fit. The wait is hard but hopefully it will be soon for all of us.

Here I am again...thin cyster..131 5'3 Posted quite often when trying to conceive DD #2
glad to see others in the same boat. Trying to make baby #3...DD almost six conceived first cycle off of bcp. No meds! yipppeeee! If only that would happen again! #2 DD was more of a challenge. Took 28 months to make her! Went through clomid, femara, metformin, all no ovulation. Went on to injectables...too many eggs for an IUI, so that same cycle we moved on to IVF. BFN...total devastation.. Three months later, on metformin, avandia and ovulex, our DD #2 was made!
Now we are working on baby #3. I came off the pill August 10th, and had AF September 11th. I am in high spirits about this, as I rarely have AF on my own. I am doubtful that I ovulated, but thrilled non the less that AF came. I am ever so hopeful that this month will be the same! I am doing an IR diet called Links and Balances. Basically, if you eat a carb you must link it with a protein. Also TRYING to limit calories...as well as exercise every other day...hoping to shed a few more pounds. I am feeling good....now if my body can do what it is supposed to do....Hoping this baby can be made it record time...Looking forward to following everyone's stories. Thanks so much for sharing them.
I was just wondering if anyone has tried out the INSULITE SYSTEM? I don't ovulate on my own either and get maybe 2 periods a year on my own and after my 2nd IVF i was having panic attacks so i ordered the INSULITE SYSTEM. Its a team of doctors who have come up with a low insulin diet and supplements to combat insulin resistance and actually reverse it. I was on it for about 10 months - i lost 20lbs (i was just a little overweight due to all the emotional binging) and the supplements would help me getting a period every month (btw its all natural products). But i don't think i ovulated at all on that either. I stopped it because i felt it wasn't really going anywhere. was just wondering if anyone else had any experience with it.
