Aturn...I have heard that they are recommending up to a year now. As far as twins go I am pretty sure you can do it if you want. I am sure it will be tiring until you get into the flow of things. A lot of women tandem nurse their newborn and toddler so I don't see why twins would be any different. Have you checked out the multiples pregnancy thread. I just read it because I think it would be so great to have twins but anyway they will probably have some good suggestions. Congrats to you for doing this. I am going to try my best to BF for a year and then we will see how it goes. Good Luck!

Evyn...It is normal to not feel the baby move every now and then. When this happens I always think it is going through a growth spurt or something. Defiantly ask your doc if you are worried though because it only takes a quick appointment to make sure everything is ok and to put your mind at ease.

Bobbysgirl...A little bit of cramping is normal. Your uterus is doing a lot right now and the ligaments around it are too. If you start bleeding I would call the doc though.

Maternity Wear...I have barely bought anything maternity because I just don't like it. Pants, yes but not shirts. I do feel like I need more things to wear but I am just going to hold out since I only have a few weeks left.

Hope everyone is having a good Monday. I am ready to be done working but I know I can still do it so I will be here for a couple more weeks.

~Amber

Amber--have you tried any of the baby flipping things yet? I don't think I'm going to. For some reason it scares me. I'm afraid the baby will flip the wrong way and get her cord stuck or something...

Sheepie...I tried the cold on top and warm on the bottom and this maneuver I saw on spinning babes. I'm kinda like you, it makes me nervous. I feel like the baby didn't flip for a reason and I don't want to force it. So I am only doing things that will allow the baby to flip if s/he wants to or can. DH was reading that 3% of babies don't flip. Crazy that we are in that small percentage. Also, I have heard a lot of stories about people getting the baby to flip and most of those stories end with, but then I had to have a c/s anyway due to..... I hate that your baby didn't flip but I am happy to have someone going through this I can talk to.

quick drive by...will be back later for personals.
Life has been pretty hectic with work/personal life (big deadlines and the ominous move ahead)

Breast feeding multiples. The lady that taught our breast feeding multiples class breast fed her twins until they were 22 months old (a little much for me), when the kid can ask for it...it just creeps me out

Mothers day. DH didn't do anything. Bummed me out a little but you could see it in his face how bad he felt that he didn't do anything. I got emails, cards and lots of phone calls from other people though...

His classic response: well, you didn't do anything for me for Father's Day!
My response: honey...Fathers day is June 15th
Him: oh.

Hillarious.

Aturn-yeah we didnt buy or even register for a breast pump yet. I know I want to breast feed I, like you, just want to make sure I can. And I know some insurance companies will cover the cost if you get a prescription for a breast pump.
As for breast feeding twins for a yr, I'm not sure but I'm interested to hear what you find out. As of right now we are planning on stopping around 6 months mostly just because I feel like it is just going to wear me out, but I dont know.

hsuter- also...according to the lady/lactation consultant...she said...if you're having twins, don't waste your time on the pumps found at babiesrus etc (even though they're like 300 bucks)
She said that we will need an "hospital grade" pump and to just rent it from the hospital. We want to do 6 months, and at a rental fee of 50 bucks a month...its the same price anyway.

Maternity clothes----so far Ive not needed pants at all. Im still in my regular work pants and jeans. The Bella Band has saved me from getting pants so far. I HIGHLY reccomend thrift stores! I was able to get 5-6 super nice Motherhood Maternity shirts at the thrift store here...and they are in practically brand new condition. Instead of spending $25 on one shirt, I spent $25 and got like...6. Also, Sears has a lot of cute tops, not too bad prices either. Hopefully I won't need too much...I don't want to spend a lot on clothes that Ill only need for another 4 months.

The baby started moving around a little bit today. I was sooo glad. I was getting worried. Up til this weekend she has been super active, moving throughout the whole day. I guess she was just taking it easy!

Im hoping to breastfeed/pump for a year. I got a pump already but the thing overwhelms me so much I usually freak out and put it away. Its pretty intimidating!!

Aturn and Heidi--just some reassurance for you girls, it is definitely possible to breastfeed twins, my friend is doing it right now. she was hoping to just feed them both at the same time and get on with her day, but they are not hungry at the same time...EVER. she is a SAHM, so it's easier for her to just feed on demand, and luckily her girls are fast eaters so it doesn't consume her whole day. now that they are almost 6 months old and starting to eat baby food, the feedings are spaced out a little more. and by 8 or 9 months, i think you only have to breastfeed 2 or 3 times a day because they are eating foods too.

i plan to try and breastfeed as long as possible. i am definitely staying home for 3 months and hope to save up a large quantity of frozen milk for the baby to eat when i'm not home and then continue to breastfeed in the morning and when i get home. i haven't looked into renting a pump, i just registered for the Pump in Style to see if anyone would buy it for me (a girl can hope!). although, my breastfeeding champ friend claims she uses a hand pump and still has a freezer full of milk!! don't ask me how!

thanks girls! I feel a little more encouraged that I may be able to do it for a year now! My insurance is going to cover renting a breast pump from the hospital for the first three months for $10 a month, great deal, then it's up to me to pay for it.

Refrain - my DH didn't do anything either, which sucked, but I got beautiful flowers from my MIL and cute little baby outfits from the rest of my family. I'll give him a pass this year but next year he's in big trouble if he screws up!

I hope I'm able to breast feed. I don't know if this is weird but I have such sensitive nipples and don't know how I'm going to handle it. I'll definitely do it for 6 months, if I'm able to.

My nausea is gone! Just some occasional gagging and stomach upsets but that's it! I couldn't be happier. I hope the little peanut is doing ok and that this change in hormones is normal.

Sheepie – I can understand your DH being against a manual flip. I understand it’s very painful and it can sometimes cause your water to break. Personally, I don’t think I could do it. But everyone has different opinions about what's important to them, you know? I spent the weekend cleaning and organizing too. It may sound sad, but it sure feels good to get all that stuff done, doesn’t it?

Bobbysgirl – Hope you had fun shopping for maternity clothes. It’s amazing how fast it adds up, isn’t it? I shopped the outlets and borrowed clothes whenever possible. I also found Motherhood Maternity had a nice selection of stuff that I could mix & match.

Evyn – Sounds like you’re having Braxton Hicks. How exciting! Where did you get your Bella Band? I’ve been considering getting one this time around.

Aturnbg – How frustrating to keep having contractions and then have them slow down. I had that happen for about a week or two before DS was born. By the time I really did go into labor I wasn’t even paying attn to the contrax for the first few hours. LOL It sounds like you’re getting close, tho!

Rose – Glad to hear your m/s is going away. Congrats on hitting the 2nd trimester!

Re BFing: A friend BF’d her twins for 1 yr. She was a SAHM and it worked well for them. I think she tandem fed when they were newborns, but as they got older/bigger it was easier to feed one, then the other. I BF’d DS for 6 months before I decided it was no longer a good fit for either of us and switched to FFing. I was really glad I BF’d for the first 6 months but toward the end we were struggling to keep him latched & focused, I was ready to have my body back, and DS was happier drinking a bottle. In general though, if you can make it through the first 4 weeks you can do it as long as you’re both happy.

I think BFing is a great start for your baby, but I just want to mention that the majority of times when a mom & baby can’t BF it’s because of issues with latch that can't be corrected. I’d encourage all of you to give BFing a good try, but please please don’t blame yourself if you realize that BFing isn’t working. A number of mmoms on DS's birth month thread went through a lot of guilt & depression when they realized BFing wouldn’t work for them. It’s not your fault and formula is an excellent alternative.

As far as pumps go, I had a Medela PIS and I loved it! If you can rent one for the same price as buying one, it’s definitely worth it. I also found it was great to have 2-3 sets of pump parts so if one was waiting to be washed you had a back up (or two). And ITA with Evyn about them being intimidating at first! I didn’t know how it all worked, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to know! Most hospitals will have a lactation consultant visit you in the hosp and they can show you how to use it. It’s actually pretty straight forward once you figure out where everything goes.

My mother's day was a bit of a let down. I made arrangements to do brunch with my mom, sister, and nephew, as well as DH and DS. It was good food and nice company, but in all honesty it was a bit of a hassle coordinating everyone etc. Then we went & visited DH's grandma in the hospital. She had a set back last week and it sounds like she has congestive heart failure but I have no idea how serious it is. After that we went to the ILs for a BBQ which was fine. But by the time we got home it had been a long day of running around and DS hadn't napped well. He went to be an hour early, which was a nice little Mother's Day gift to me! But other than that I got a card from MIL and one from my mom. DH didn't do anything special, which sort of hurt my feelings. Last year he went all out, so I wasn't expecting him to do much this year... But I thought I'd at least get a card. I guess that means I just don't have to make a fuss over him on Father's Day.

I'm nervous about starting my new job with a pg belly. I didn't intend to get pg during my job search, and I really didn't plan to get a job at 16w. I was hoping for something to come through around 10-14w. So now I'm getting a belly and my work clothes don't fit well and I have to start my new job either looking like a fat slob who's clothes don't fit, or wearing maternity clothes from day 1. I don't like either scenario very much! I'm worried what people with think or say. It's a big company, though. Do you think that will make much difference? I have no idea what to think.

I was so afraid they would be like...great, you're going to work here 6 months and then take leave...thanks. But no one thought that at all. no worries girl!

13 - I've been so worried about work too. I still haven't told anyone, but I'm sure my office-mate has figured it out by now after all my weird meal choices and constant complaining. We're probably just overanalyzing, they will be fine with it.

13 - You give me hope that the end is near! Bless you! I wouldn't be to nervous about letting your new job know about the pregnancy. My work was really cool about it and I also work for a big company. Most people are really understanding.
