Default Thin and IR confirmed

I've read that a lot of thin cysters believe they are IR, but doctors won't test them because being thin and IR is "impossible". I am here to tell ya-it 's not the truth!

I have been thin my whole life-now I'm 5'1 and 115 lbs-right in the middle of a normal BMI. I was diagnosed with PCOS in December and my doc tested me for IR "just in case although I'm 99% sure you are not" (she said). Well come to find out-I am severely IR and now on Met.

So, its funny to think all those times when I have felt felt dizzy, light-headed and jittery were not normal. I was just having hypoglycemic episodes. So thin-cysters if you don't "feel" normal, please urge your doc to give you the tests. It will make things so much better for you.

Good to know- thanks! I have a suspicion that I am too. I saw an RE who told me that those tests are not always accurate and that some PCOSers can have subtle IR that is undetectable.

Yeah, my doc doesn't test but suspects I have it. Met has worked wonderfully for me.

Default Hypoglycemia and IR

Getting hypoglycemic episodes is just part of the vicious IR cycle...Insulin is high (because cells are resistant to insulin and it takes more to regulate the cells) therefore blood sugar is low...crave carbs, sweets because of low blood sugar...eat sweets...insulin surges again in response to sugar in the foods. Thats how it was explained to me. I was very confused at first too.
Met makes your body more sensitive to insulin, so it doesn’t have to make as much and in turn-lower insulin=normal glucose levels.
Met is not suppose to cause/increase hypoglycemia because it doesn't actually affect insulin secretion-just the way the cells react to insulin.
