Default Thin-low carb diet and weight loss

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 5 months ago. I was also told that I am a few lbs undeweight and that could play a role in infertility; so I should pick up a few lbs. I was told to start a low carb diet to help with the PCOS, so I have been cutting back carbs and some sugars in my diet. I have been eating until I feel full, but I have been losing weight. I am not sure how much because I don't have a scale, but I can tell my pants are looser, so I am guessing 5-10 lbs. How can I stick with the low carb diet for PCOS and not lose weight? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Tina,

I've been low carbing for a little while now and I too have been losing weight. I am 5,7 and just came back from Europe weighing 141 pounds (cakes, sausages!). I've lost 9 pounds. On a doctor's scale I would be at a healthy weight right now but I always feel good at 121 pounds so I don't mind if I lose another 11 pounds. With that said....I am losing weight on this diet but once I get to 121 to stop losing it I will just eat more.

Chicken has a lot of calories as does cheese and full cream yogurt/milk. Baked beans are half protein/half carbs and pack a lot of calories. Nuts have a lot of calories as does avocado (about 150 for each half).

I have rocket salad with full fat parmesan through it and then a little balsalmic. Serve that with half a chicken breast.

Snack on nuts...I have and it's slowed my weight loss down. About 10 nuts pack in 150 calories or something like that.

Make sure you eat....

3 meals a day with protein about the size of your palm at each meal. Lots of vegies and a little fat (avocado, nuts, cheese). Have eggs for breakfast every day. 70 calories in each egg...good!

2-3 snacks per day: Snack on nuts, cheese, baked beans, full cream yogurt (no sugar), fruit (no more than 3 pieces) and yummy when served with low carb ice cream.

This diet tends to make you feel fuller for longer but you just have to keep eating snacks like nuts. And it helps to make your meals interesting. I add chili and garlic to EVERYTHING! It helps. And don't just make grilled chicken with steamed vegies...find a low carb recipe out there. Like lasagne made with vegies, minced meat and no pasta - use zucchini as the pasta sheets. Use ricotta and spinach leaves as the white sauce. Smother the top in parmesan. Yum! You will go back for seconds! I cook with myself and my hubby in mind and I try to make it tasty.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Suz

Suz- I am also 5'7" tall, but I now weight 116 lbs. I was at 118 when I started the low carb diet a few months ago. I have always eaten well, and have always been underweight. My RE wants me to gain a few pounds, but instead I have lost. I would like to be at 120-125 lbs. but I don't see how this is possible on this low carb diet. It just isn't easy for me to gain weight. I usually eat 3 small meals and then a good sized meal at dinner and then a snack of nuts or crackers before bed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am willing to try anything.

Hi Tina,

Wow! You do weigh like a fairy! I guess lots of nut snacks through the day and guacamole with EVERYTHING!! Good luck. Hope you pile on a couple of pounds (nice to say to someone)! Cheers, Suz
