Default thin and non-IR - can met still help TTC?

i'm 110 lbs and not insulin resistant. would metformin still help with ovulation and ttc? based on what i've seen this is debatable...

I am in the same boat as you... I don't have any answers unfortunately but I asked my RE about it and they gave me 1500 mg of Metformin. I have read that it will help even if you are not overweight or IR so I wanted to give it a try. The nurse told me yesterday too after we found that 100 mg of Clomid did not produce any follicles for me that the Metformin combined with the Clomid would help. It takes a few months to start working so I decided to just start with it from the beginning. I will give it 6 months and if it doesn't work I will go off!

Default Non-IR

I am in the same boat as you. I just had Ovarian Diathermy and actually O'd on my own 2.5 weeks later (this week!). My RE has also put me on Metformin as he said he has seen a lot of success stories in Non-IR PCOS patients who were resistant to Clomid,

I'm non-IR and only a little over my ideal weight and metformin worked for me. I do not have periods (thus no ovulation) AT ALL without some form of medicine help (BCP, Provera, Clomid) and I got a period within a month of starting Met...I was on nothing else.
I had a suprise pregnancy a few months ago (7 months after being put on Met) that sadly ended in miscarriage...but I wanted you to know that it did it for me.
I take the brand Glucophage XR...it seems to work better in my system than the generic Met...I have less side effects on brand.

My RE told me that even though lean women with PCOS generally don't show IR in the bloodwork, our bodies still behave that way. That's why met seems to work for us. I'd been REALLY trying to cut out all the sugar, caffiene, and alcohol before I started Met, and live by the low GI diet. I also don't ever get periods without some kind of BCP or provera. I ended up getting it on my own for the first time after my second day of Met. At that time I was only on 500mg. I'm also ttc so I really think/hope Met works for lean cysters just as well. I don't want to go on clomid. (I def could stand to loose a few so I was pleased and suprised my doc referred to me as a 'lean woman', ha.)
