Default Thin, non IR, and met dose (same as metformin)

I'm a fairly thin cyster (though since going off BCPs I've gained about 7 lbs). My GTT results are normal. My endo only has me on 500 mg of met. I'm Oing but late (CD 18 or 19). I would like to try 1000 mg of met to see if it makes a difference for Oing earlier and weight control but my endo does not think a higer doseage would make a difference.

All you thin cysters who did not test IR, what dose of met are you on so that I can make my case?

Hi,

I am a normal weight cyster (albeit one with a tendency to put on weight easily), non-IR. I think my fasting insulin level was a 7. I have been on 1500 mg met since mid-August 2002. By the end of September, AF arrived for the first time in my 14 months off the pill. I took Clomid this cycle and am waiting to see what happens next.

Best,

Lana

Hi,

I'm also a "normal" weight cyster. My fasting insulin was 11 when I started taking met in April. After taking 1500 mg for 2 months, my fasting insuling dropped to 4 and my doctor (Glueck) upped my met dosage to 2550 mg. I have been undergoing fertility treatment since the increased dosage, so I have no idea if it has helped in that area or not. I also have not had my fasting insulin tested since then. Hope this helps a little. Good luck to you.

Sabrina

I am 5'11" and weigh 138lbs. I was on 1500mg of glucophage xr but it didn't seem to be working. So I asked my RE about going to 2000mg he said ok. I don't think I O on my own, but I do get AF now, although they are long cycles (anywhere from 36-50 days)

I never had a fasting insulin test so I don't know if I'm IR.
Since I've been on met for a year and half can I still do the test or would the met screw it up?
