Default Thin, not IR; Introduction and Clomid question

Hello,
I am new to this website although I am not new to PCOS. I was diagnosed in 1995 by an RE with blood tests (LH>FSH) and ultrasound but had symptoms since menarche at age 15. I am relatively thin (125 lbs; 5' 5"). Since '95, I was on bcps but my attitudes have changed over the year and now my husband and I would like to be open to life (but we are not actively ttc). I went to an RE last month and had all the tests redone to see what was up. I am not insulin resistant (cholesterol, bp, etc... are excellent). My fasting insulin is quite low (4) and my fasting glucose is competely normal; my RE does not want to try insulin sensitizing meds like Met because of these factors and I agree after doing some additional research. Other tests showed that LH continued to be greater than FSH and my testerone was somewhat elevated; and I had 20 cysty follicles on each ovary. That's more than usual (8-10) from what I've found in my research and from what the RE said. (and it was hard not to get grossed out by having so many!)

Anyway, the RE recommended Clomid and monitoring if ttc and bcps if not. I was wondering what success thin, non-IR cysters had with Clomid. I am disappointed that my husband and I can't just let nature take its course (or let God decide) and that we have to actively decide one way or another about what to do next. But that's life, isn't it?
Thanks for any insights and have a Happy New Year!

I conceived my son on Clomid, but I was also on metformin. I'm also not IR, but my endo + RE did think it best to put me on insulin meds. There has been research showing that metformin can be helpful to cysters, even if we're not IR. In my case, met never restored my cycles, but did lower my testosterone levels. You may be fine not taking met. It sounds like you've definitely done your research and are making an educated decision with your doc.

I have seen thin, non IR cysters around here who've conceived on clomid alone. Hopefully some will jump in to share their stories with you. I suspect Clomid alone probably would have helped me ovulate, but in my case, the addition of met helped provide a more opimal hormonal envionment to support healthy conception.

I agree that it's tough to realize that you can't easily let "nature take it's course" with PCOS & TTCing. I found that frustrating too. I tried without meds for a while and on met alone with no success, but conceived after only 3 cycles of clomid.

Good luck determining your next steps!

I am also not IR & weigh the same as you but am 5'4. I am taking met just to help the symptoms & I am trying to get myself up & running so we can try for another baby in the next few months. I was diagnosed in late 2001 & the dr. put me on medroxyprogesterone for 1 week out of the month each month. It definitely regulated me & after 3 months of being on it I got AF on my own & the next month was pregnant without even trying. So nature can take its course sometimes at least. I am probably going to be put on clomid when we start trying so I too am wondering what other peoples stories with clomid are. My very good friend who is PCOS conceived on clomid so I have heard good things. good luck
