Glucophage could help, as almost all PCOS sufferers have some degree of IR. Some doctors only test the fasting insulin, which is not enough to rule out IR.
Here is a piece of a related post of mine, I hope it helps you

Check the "Normal Hormone Levels" link in my signature.
Fasting insulin levels can help detect IR without further testing. If they are above 10, you are likely IR.
If, however, they are lower, further testing is needed to determine whether you are non-IR.
I went to a PCOS seminar this Monday and the endo who spoke said that IR is at the root of PCOS and pretty much everyone with PCOS has some level of IR and would benefit from insulin sensitizing drugs, diet, etc.
One better way to further check for IR if the fasting insulin levels are normal is a 2-hour glucose tolerance test with insulin levels, which shows your body's response both glucose and insulin-wise to the intake of a known amount of sugar (glucose).
Blood levels of glucose and insulin are drawn after fasting, then 30 mins, 1 hour and 2 hours after drinking a special sweet drink.
The results show if there is an impaired glucose absorbtion in the cells (or a poor response to insulin) and if your body needs to produce extra insulin in order to keep the blood sugar low.
In my case for example, my fasting insulin is 8.
However, my 1-hour insulin is 62.
A 1-hour insulin 4-5 times higher than the fasting level is an IR indicator (my body is overdoing it with the insulin production, showing that my glucose is not properly metabolized).
Many doctors only check the fasting levels, which can be ok (below 10) yet they may be missing the IR diagnosis.
Here are the normal test results, from the link in my signature:
===
Glucose Tolerance Test with Insulin (GTT / IGTT)
Fasting
Glucose < 126 mg/dl
Insulin < 10 mIU/ml
Normal glucose results are 70-90, 111 or over is impaired, 126 or over is diabetic. Insulin levels above 10 show insulin resistance.
½ hour
Glucose < 200 mg/dl
Insulin 40-70 mIU/ml
A truly normal glucose response will not exceed 150.
1 hour
Glucose < 200 mg/dl
Insulin 50-90 mIU/ml
Some want to lower the threshold on glucose to < 180 to identify early stages of diabetes.
Insulin > 80 shows insulin resistance, or a level 5 times that of the fasting level (i.e., a fasting of 11 followed by a 1 hour > 55)
2 hours
Glucose < 140 mg/dl
Insulin 6-50 mIU/ml
A truly normal glucose response is 110 or lower.
Insulin > 60 is IR.

So, without performing this test there is not enough information for a non-IR diagnosis.
I hope this helps,
