Default Thin with PCOS- causes and TTC

Hi,
I am very skinny 105 pounds 5'4 and was just diagnosed with PCOS. My periods were always between 35-45 days until all of a sudden after my last cycle in March my period went missing for 2 and a half months, and then again so far it has been 3 months during this cycle. I thought that was so strange since I got my period before 35-45 days and I am pretty sure that I ovulated before because I tracked my bady temperature and did ovulation predictor kits right before I wanted to concieve. I was told I have PCOS though an ultrsaound, my androstenedione levle being high, and my LH levels being high.

I feel like I did not have PCOS before. My Gyn said it was a genetic condition- but no one in my family has this, nor has anyone had trouble conceiving. I am convinced that something happened to cause a hormonal change in my body becasue I am skinny with PCOS. BUT WHAT??

Has anyone had a similar experience? I read an interesting article that can be found on the internet if you type in "a sensible alternative and polycystic Ovarian Syndrom" as a search. It explains that skinny people with PCOS have a very different cause then heavy people with PCOS and that many cases of skinny PCOS are temporary. I was shocked when I read this. It exaplined that skinny PCOS (or type 2 PCOS) are not necessarily insulin resistantand that the ovaried are inhibited by other factors such as The birth control pill, leptin imbalance (mretabolism) and other hotmone disruptors-environmental chemicals - which could be posssible becasue around the time my period went missing for 3 months I was on medications and cotisteroid creams- did this change my hormones or am I overthinking things.

Does anyone believe this that the pill could cause this or changes in our hormones- after the pill there is a huge drop in estrogen- they may pose a shock to our body. I went off my pill in Dec and started missing my period in March. Does anyone believe that skinny PCOS could be something that is temporary? Has anyone heard this do you have anythoughts or advice for me etc?
I really believe that something caused this and I did not have this before.

My cycle was like that when i was diagnosed, and I thought I had 'never missed a cycle'. Turns out, my cycles were annovulatory, most of the time (hence the many cysts on my ovaries). When I got my hormones leveled out, I developed a 28-day ovulatory cycle, and it has stayed 28 days.

Menstruating regularly, does not mean you're ovulating or that you don't have pcos.

How did you get your hormones back to normal? My androstenedione and LH are too high. How can I get the LH and androstenedione decreased?

I would also really like to know the answers to your questions. I asked similar questions from my gyn but she could not tell me why I am so skinny and still have PCOS. She did tell me that we thin cysters are often do not ovulate and it is a lot harder to induce an ovulation for us.

I know that it is not the pill that caused my hormonal imbalance, because my cycles have always been super long. Is it genetic condition? No one had problems getting pregnant in my family, I should say it was rather the opposite. Between my mother, my sister and my mother's sister there have been 7 or 8 accidental pregnancies!!! And I need meds to get pregnant ...

Ok, this is my first time on here and I'm glad to see I'm not crazy. I've often wondered the same thing about the pill. I always had regular cyles (35 days), went on the pill in 2006, came off the pill in 2008 and had normal cycles with ovulation for 2 months and then they stopped and came sporadically. After almost a year of this, I went to dr. and a high level of testosterone says I have PCOS. No one in my family has had a single fertility issue. I have no symptoms. I am 5'6", 110 pounds. No excess hair or acne, belly weight, etc. I asked the dr. if the pill could have possibly caused this, but she didn't seem to think so. It just seems so odd to just come up out of the blue and I'm glad I'm not alone...

I really don't think that PCOS is a temporary syndrome for thin women. I've always been thin, and I know I've had PCOS from the start even though I wasn't diagnosed until my late twenties. I didn't get my first period until I was 15, and then I would go months in between cycles. My acne flared up after I got my first period, and it wasn't until my ob/gyn put my on estrostep (bcp) that my acne went away and my periods regulated. At 28, I came off the pill and within 2 months, my periods stopped and the acne started up again. It was at this time that I was diagnosed with PCOS and I've been ttc for the past year.

I honestly think my mother has PCOS, too, but she was never diagnosed. She had/has different symptoms than me but could never be diagnosed because she’s past menopause. She had irregular periods but didn't have fertility problems. She's always had trouble with weight...diets don't seem to work for her. Also, she has cystic tissue in her breasts (which I have too), and she's always seen an electrologist for facial hair. All these are classic symptoms but because she never had fertility problems, she was never diagnosed with PCOS.

I believe PCOS must be hereditary, but that the syndrome shows itself differently in different people. It's the same with many diseases/syndromes...people's bodies react differently to them. Everyone is different, so everyone's body responds differently to the PCOS hormone imbalance. Some people have fertility problems, while some don't. Some have weight issues while some don't. Some have acne, and some have excess hair, but some don't have those problems either.

I was not a 'thin cyster' to begin with, so my situation is different, but I took the anti-androgen Eulexin (aka flutamide) for about a year, and also put everything in my life on a 'cycle'. Sleep & Wake was always the same (even on weekends). I worked out at the same time morning AND evening (5 to 6 days a week). My workouts were high intensity cardio and heavy weights (since that has a big impact on hormones and shifting body composition.)

Since you don't want to lose weight, just make sure your calorie intake matches your output. But the combination of cardio and weights can positively impact your hormones, and fat 'distribution'>> Fat distribution affects PCOS metabolism regardless of body weight

Totally not genetic for me. Not one person on either side of my family is overweight, has facial hair, has diabetes or any symptoms of pcos or a similar syndrome.

This is me exactly. Except I got my period a bit younger. My Mum is one of eight children (6 girls) and all of them got pregnant very young so I'm thinking it's on my Dad's side. Mum said my Dad's sister took awhile to have her first so I suspect she has/had PCOS.

I also want to know if it can be temporary for skinny women. I am 5'3.5" and just over 100 lbs. I have been thin my whole life. I had regular periods (34-36 day cycles) for over 6 years, until suddenly, when I started a full-time job, got engaged, and started stressing over planning my wedding, my periods became irregular, where the time between periods became longer and longer. After a few months of this, I went to the gyno. She tested my hormones and said that both my estrogen and testosterone were way too high so she put me on the birth control pill. I want to know if the hormone imbalance could have been caused by the sudden stress I experienced during those months, rather than something inherently wrong with me. I just find it hard to believe that I had PCOS all along.

I am very excited to see this thread. I often read thin PCOS & find very little of it in myself...I see plenty here. I am naturally 110 lbs & 5'6" Dx thin pcos without the considered typical symptoms. I too ONLY have elevated lh levels. My MD has since put me on metformin to decrease it & clomid to ovulate, which I did last month.
I have regular menstrual cycles, aside from they can be up to 38 days. Metformin has decreased them to 32 days & counting. I am currently on meds listed below. Any success stories?

Thank God it's not just me. I stopped taking the pill in February (we WERE TTC) and I had 2 periods just fine. Then they stopped all together and yesterday I was diagnosed PCOS. I really don't believe it! I'm 5'6 and at my heaviest right now at 130. I gained 7 of those over the last couple months. I run weekly and eat organically. Seriously, I just don't understand this.

And I have a HUGE family. My dad has 9 brothers and sisters, my mother has 3. I have 3 sisters and they all have multiple children. No genetics at work here.
