thin PCOS confused with hypothalamic ammenorhea? Hey girls...
I have had what most doctors have said is PCOS for a few years. I am thin and athletic and have even struggled with an eating disorder for a few years. A few months after I started restricting my diet, my period dissapeared. I had ammenorhea for a few years. Most doctors said that I have PCOS. They put me on birth control pills and hormone replacement as my estrogen was very low. My testosterone, though, was a bit elevated. I had terrible side effects so i went off. I have been doing really well with my food and have been eating enough calories and higher fat. I also went on supplements and have been doing accupunture. My holistic doctor thinks it is probably not PCOS and dietary related. My gynocologist told me it was PCOS. I've had a gut feeling that it was related to my nutrition. I got a light period today, naturally after adding the supplements and eating better, which is my first one in 3 or 4 years. I feel that thin PCOS and other kinds of ammenorhea are often confused. If you totally do not fit the symptoms of PCOS, although you do not have a period and do not ovulate, maybe it is hypothalamic ammenorhea and not PCOS. Just throwin it out there! ;-)
