Default Thin with PCOs Seeking Alternative Therapy Again

I was diagnosed with PCOs in my late teens, actually by an electrolosist who I had seen for several years. I was put on birth control and used this for almost 10 years with out any problems. My PCOs was considered under control, no weight gain, hair growth, diabetes or acne. But, because I believe in alternative medicines I decided to get to the root of my PCOs and went off the Pill and recently started seeing a naturopath.

I haven't had my period in 6 months and have developed acne and hair growth. I am concerned about not having my period because western doctors said this could be dangerous, though my naturopath did not.

1. I just want to hear from others about their experience with alternative therapy treatment.

2. Also, I want to know about people who don't have weight gain with their PCOs. I have been a vegetarian since 13 and now eat some fish and am trying to increase my protein intake. Though I had some weight gain at one time, right now i don't seem to have any. Though my metabolism may be slowing down.

Well first of all are you TTC? If so, my OB/gyn said that i should not take birth control if i am TTC. She said it's better to treat it with Metformin. She also said that not having periods at all can be very serious and put you at risk of cancer. She said something like too much estrogen without enough progesterone can cause cancer. I would try Fertility blend if i were you since it's not like a drug but more like a herb. When i tried it, i had very normal periods until i stopped taking it. Now i'm back to square one.

I am using diet, acupuncture and TCM to treat my PCOS. The TCM (herbs) seem to be working, and I am seeing some reduction in my symptoms.

I also used to be a vegetarian, but this diet only made my PCOS worse because it was high in carbs and low in protein. After I was diagnosed with PCOS, I started eating meat, poultry and fish, and stopped eating beans, grains, and dairy. This low carb/high-healthy-fat diet is working well for me and helped with my PCOS symptoms, although PCOS can be treated with other diets.

There are many "thin cysters" on this board who did not gain weight because of PCOS.

The top of this forum has detailed information on alternative remedies to various pcos symptoms: http://www.soulcysters.net/alternative-remedies/

There is also Thin Cysters forum here: http://www.soulcysters.net/thin-cysters/
(But most of the 'alternative' chat is in the AR forum...

Thanks for the replies and info. What is TTC?
I have been wary of someone telling me a meat based diet helped their PCOs since I am not going to eat it. But, I do incorporate some fish, eggs and full fat dairy.
My naturopath said that not getting my period is not a health risk, but my Obgyn said it is. I am not sure if there is a time frame of risk or not, but for the meantime I will stick with the alternative medicine approach and hope it helps.
Any other advice or information regarding alternative therapies for PCOs is much appreciated.
