I had problems breastfeeding as well and visited my LC a number of times. I finally settled for the next best thing - exclusively pumping. I pumped for my daughter for 7 months and the only reason I stopped was because I'm going abroad where my pump won't work. It's important for women to know that pumping is an option - it's more work but very rewarding.
One of my friends is a LC and I fully intend on calling on her for advice! But not quite yet since it's VERY early...she doesn't even know we're expecting lol
I love this thread! So informative!

if someone offers to cook for you, clean for you, do your dishes, or take out your other kids so you can get some rest. TAKE IT!!!!!
ALSO learn to ask family and friends for help....
and remember to get some "me time" in every day.....

While in the hospital send the baby to the nursery at night!
I agree with this to a point...I guess I should say I agree if everythin' about ur delivery goes smoothly...both of my babies were hooked up to machines for the 1st wk of life for under developed lungs so once they finally were what we lovin'ly call "string free" I wanted to keep my babies as close to me as possible...just never wanted them outta my sight...I had already missed so much I wasn't about to let anymore time slip away!

I know some of these have probably been said before - I read this post for months before I delivered and just wanted to add my thoughts now that my DD is here.
1. How she would have her own smell that I would know instantly - i love that smell.
2. I was surprised how little she cried the first few months. She barely cried but grunted ALL THE TIME - day and night.
3. This grunting made it impossible for us to sleep in the same room with her.
4. How reflux could start at 5 weeks old making every moment between feedings painful for her (and me)
5. How often babies poo and how it doesnt smell that bad. But both of these dont last forever.
6. How much she would sneeze and hiccup
7. How baby acne would come and made me worry since it looked so bad- but it would go away
8. Same thing for cradle cap- it too will disappear in time
9. The first week everyone else wants to hold her- its okay to say no to visitors and spend time bonding with your baby (I wish I had said no to more people)
10. How she could turn her head RIGHT BEFORE delivery making things more painful and difficult.
11. But how amazing it is to have a child and the first sight of her is burned into my memory forever.
**I too agree with sending baby to the nursery at least for a few hours. I had maybe 4 hours sleep in 2.5 days but never planned to send her. I was really unsure but the nurse convinced us to let her go to the nursery and I made them promise to bring her back if she cried there. The sleep we got was lifesaving- made going home to care for her easier
