Question Thinking ahead (pregnancy mentioned)

We weren't trying to get pregnant when we conceived either of our babies. I chalked Rivi up to a miracle (we were separated and only had sex once that month), so we didn't worry too much about BC afterward, other than condom use around the times I thought I was O'ing. Well, then we conceived Smoochie (I O'd late that month). And I'm already thinking ahead to eventual prevention after s/he's born.

When I took BCPs before, they made all of my PCOS symptoms worse. I mean, a MILLION TIMES worse. I'm terrified that that will happen again. I never thought I'd take them again, but here I am considering it.

Does anyone know of a PCOS-Friendly BCP that I could ask about after Smoochie's born? I mean one that DOESN'T make the symptoms worse? Or, does anyone know where I might be able to start doing some research?

Thanks!

I take Yasmin and haven't had any real problems on, I've been on it for about three months and have noticed a big improvement in some of my symptoms (namely excess hair), I'm not sure if that's the Yasmin or the other drugs I'm taking (Metformin and Finasteride). I've lost some weight on it, which is a surprise since the last time I went on the pill (Microgynon) I put on a lot of weight and got depressed.

My gynae consultant says that he prefers to prescribe Yasmin to people with PCOS, I think, it has an anti-androgen and apparently has less of a tendancy to increase weight gain. I've been really happy on Yasmin but everyone is different. It can be down almost to trial and error to find one that works with you.

If you check out this link:

http://www.wdxcyber.com/ncontr13.htm

Down near the bottom there is a table of suggested pills to counteract certain problems (some associated with PCOS) so might be worth a look. From what I know and have read Dianette and Yasmin are the most commonly prescribed BCP's for women with PCOS.

Anyway, I hope that helps or even makes sense (it's nearly 2am and I can't sleep).

I'd give up chocolate, but I'm no quitter.

I am not disorganized, I have anti-systematic methodology disorder.

I was placed on Yasmin and my symptoms started to dissapear after 7-8 months ( my skin looked amazing and people were always complimenting me) I then started to have problems with memory and depression and it took a neurologist to figure out it was all due to Yasmin- I can no longer take it which is a shame as it worked well for a really short time.
