Default Thinking of buying an epilator?

Are these any good?

Fed up of shaving?

DO IT!

I have the remmington gold electric epilator and I absolutely love it. It's a tad bit painful, but so totally worth it!

I paid about $40.00 for mine at K-Mart.

I love mine so I say do it!

I just bought an epilator today in the January sales. When I first turned it on I was scared to use it because the noise was so loud and it was buzzing so much, but I just tried it on my stomach and it's *fantastic*. My stomach looks like any other woman's stomach - a miracle! I am hoping I will be able to use it under my chin as well, but will have to wait for more hair to grow back in there first. It wasn't too painful at all, but I don't find waxing that bad so am obviously not that sensitive. anyway, so far so good, I will let you know if I still love my new baby in a couple of weeks!

My mum has been using an epilator for years, and her leg hair hardly grows back now - just pale fuzz that she whips off no problem.

I tried it when I was about 15 and just couldn't stick the pain, I'm afraid. I tried to persist, with tears streaming down my face, and just couldn't do it. I now get my bikini line waxed and still can't face the epilator.

They really do work so if you have a high pain threshold (I'm obviously pathetic, my mum doesn't seem to have any problem and neither do the previous posters here) then go for it. If you have a friend or relative who has one maybe you can do a patch test with theirs to see what you think before paying for one?

How is it compared to sugaring???

I tried the sugar wax on my legs and had tears streaming down my face

but I bet it would be great for the tummy!

I would just hate to spend the money and never use it!

I have never tried sugaring, I'm afraid. I would say it's worse than waxing just because it takes longer, and anyway I could never wax myself - I just look away, grit my teeth, and the beautician does it for me! I must stress that everyone is different though, and I'm obviously on the sensitive side!

OOo ouch! The thought of using it on my underarms makes me want to cry.

My legs are sensitive, so I haven't been brave enough to try it on my legs yet... I'm afraid I would have tears streaming down my face as well.

I was, however, able to use mine under my chin, upper lip, and my stomach. Maybe that sounds weird that I could use it on my face but not my legs?? maybe because my face isn't quite as large and area.

and unfortunately I have never tried sugaring either, so I can't compare them.

Default I bought one!!

Well I bought one last week, and have to say I am impressed, not too painful, although my leg hairs are starting to come through already and are not that soft, im hoping they will get softer over time, used it on my face and it doesn't bring me out in acne like waxing does. my excess hair grows like weeds so I dont expect to stay smooth for 4 weeks like it says. Oh and I did my bikini area and butt!! (i usually wax)

I just thought I'd add my two cents: I was reading this thread a while back and then decided to buy an epilator. The one I got is from Braun (Bed Bath and Beyond). Actually, I tried the Epilady (the one with the coils) a LONG time ago when it had just come out (I was a teenager) and I just about bit off my tongue it hurt so much. To top it off, I got my long head hair caught in the coils and ended up having to cut a small portion of my hair short. Not the most fun experience, so I was a little nervous to try an epilator again!

But I am really, really pleased! So I'd definitely recommend it. I have a lot of excess hair on my inner thighs, and I used to wax it. Now it is SO, SO nice not to have to let the hair grow back in order to wax. The epilator plucks out the hairs before I can really see them. I have a decent tolerance for pain, and maybe I've worn my poor skin down through all the waxing, but I really don't find it that uncomfortable. I've also done my bikini line (didn't work as well there for some reason), my stomach right under my belly button (worked great) and tried my chin (not so good -- I don't think the surface area is wide enough and is too round for the epilator to work so I'll keep plucking).

This is the best hair removal system I've found. I have always been really embarrassed by the hair on my inner thighs, which had gotten worse when I went off the pill. It's definitely worth the discomfort and $49.

Also, with waxing, I got a ton of ingrown hairs, especially on my bikini line. This is much better with the epilator.

I had one several years ago and boy did it hurt. My only advice is if you have long hair, put it in a ponytail. I would be using it and lift it up to check my legs and it would get caught in my hair. Not very fun.

It is the one thing I can't live without. I bought Emjoi the classic version for about $30 and have been using it for about 2 years now. It works wonderfully. I like it better than sugaring. I have used Nads. I have seen it in catalouges and online but don't know what stores carry it. The site is

So I just bought an epilator. I have been wanting one for so long thinking that it will finally help conquer my overgrown bikini line.

-First I started on my lower legs. OUCH!!! We are talking major pain, ladies. I was in a cold sweat from the pain. The same day I tried my underarms. Holy cow - worse pain. I got half way through each underarm and couldn't bear it any longer.

-Today I tried my thighs and a little bit of my bikini line.

So here are my conclusions...

Lower legs - very painful, but didn't get all the hair out

Thighs - less painful (I think b/c the hair is thinner) but still didn't get all the hair out, sorta trimmed the hair sometimes instead of plucking it

Underarms - extremely pain, hard to epilate because it's not a flat surface and the hair is very "embedded" (imagine plucking out a underarm hair - you'd really have to pull)

Bikini area - I have tried different creams and waxes and lately I have been (this will sound weird, but...) tweezing down there, so I am used to pain. The bikini area is where it worked the best.

So what can you professional epilating ladies advise me to do to get better results?
(By the way, I have a Braun silk-epil, if it helps to know.)

Thanks for your advice!

Erin

I have the Braun Silk-Epil too, and I use it periodically. My gripe is that it doesn't get all the hair on legs out and can give you some pretty bad ingrown hairs. I can take the pain of it (kinda reminds me of getting a tattoo...it hurts like hell at first and then as the endorphines kick in, it's not so bad....if you can handle the silk-epil, you can handle getting a tattoo...lol).
I tried using it on underarm hair once....ONCE....this was a bit much for me to take and I didn't do it again. I've used it on my arms as well and had great results. My arms are filled with red dots for the first 2 days and then it goes away. What we do for a smooth body, huh?
I'm thinking about getting that disk thing that rubs the hair away. It doesn't take the hair away for as long as an epilator or waxing, but it's definately less painful and makes you smooth and shiny.
I think that all the cysters should move to the same town and just let all the hair grow out. Anyone with me? :p

I too have a Braun Silk-Epil. I found it very effective for my legs to just above the knee and tops of my feet - but SO slow and such a chore! It was a little more painful than waxing, but bearable. But I had to keep passing over the same area over and over again to get them all.

I tried it on my face... OWWWWWW!!!! I have a pretty high pain threshhold but I just couldn't stand that on my face. I had tears rolling down my face, it was agony.

I'm afraid I've relegated my epilator to the cupboard and have gone back to shaving my legs for now. It's just much quicker, less painful and gets all the hairs in each stroke. I wish I could afford to get them waxed regularly but it's just too expensive for me now I'm afraid.
