Hi Lisa, Dawn and Candy,
Sorry I wasnt able to post earlier. No computer access...
Today I did well!! So proud of us!
This morning I had cheese and tea, and for lunch I had chicken strips from a place here called guthries. They have a few more carbs than I would like, but I am still under 25 for the day. Then this afternoon I had more cheese, finished my 4th glass of water and I came home and walked my dog!! Our neighborhood has a circle about 9/10s of a mile so we did that. I just finished making a leg of lamb for dinner. We will eat most of that, and then I wil have jello for dessert.
I dont know where everyone is from, but down here in the south, we cant live without sweet tea. This was my addiction, but here is a solution if you are like me!! make a pitcher of tea like you usually would, but instead of sugar, add 12-13 sweet and low packets for the whole pitcher. It is GREAT!!
Anyway.
The scale this morning said 159 so I am down 2 lbs since monday.

I am glad you all are doing so well!!! Lets keep it up!
Take care!!!
karen

Default 6 lbs since Monday!

Hi ladies,
I'm so glad to know there are others out there doing Atkins at the same time. I weighed myself this morning and am at 219, down 6 lbs. since Monday. I noticed that yesterday and today I suddenly have a TON of energy. My husband and I only have 1 vehicle and he goes to school in PIttsburgh, so if I want to go anywhere other than work (the church I work at is 20 yards away), I have to walk. I actually walked to the library and back without feeling exhausted like normal. I'm actually thinking about walking to the grocery store in a little bit (It's over 1.5 miles away)..... I can't believe how good I feel. I hope you're all doing well!
I can't get enough of that sugar-free jello! It's so good.
On another note, have any of you seen a reproductive endocrinologist? I just called to make an appointment and can't get in for my first appt. until June 25th. It's at Magee Women's Hospital at the Center for Infertility and Reproductive Endocrinology with the Center Director, but still... The dr. I wanted to see there didn't have an opening until September.
My gyn and my family dr. both recommended the same dr. in a town about 20 minutes away, and I think I could get in much faster, but I don't know if I should or just wait to see the top people. Any ideas? I'm also wondering how the testing for PCOS would be affected by the Atkins Diet. Any thoughts would be helpful!
Keep up the good work!!
Lisa

Hi everyone!
Lisa: Congrats on your 6 lb loss!! I am down 3 lbs since Monday, but I am hoping that after AF starts and goes, I will lose some of the water weight I am hanging on to. Glad you started noticing the extra energy. When I eat carbs especially at lunch, I am soooo tired a half an hour later. I practically want to lay on the floor with my class and take a nap with them!! Since Monday, I haven't really felt that need.
Sugar free jello is awesome!!!
My Dh and I are going to see a RE next month. We dont have one in town or anywhere nearby, so we are going to Atlanta (5 hours away) to the Atlanta Center for Reproductive Medicine. The atkins will help some people, because of the nasty circle that is PCOS. Some people get it because of weight, some get it and then gain weight and round and round we go. I was told that reducing the weight will affect the IR and that will affect the PCOS. I even heard one amazing story about a lady that lost 150 lbs and the cysts and any sign of PCO were gone 3 months later. Got pregnant too. That is what I am holding on for!! One of my motivational techniques (kinda silly though) is I think of the names that my DH and I liked for our future children. Keeps those fries and ice cream outta my mouth!!
Cant wait to hear how everyone else is doing!!

Default hello everyone!

I have been dabbling with the idea of low carbing again. so, i guess, i am gonna start next week. monday I guess. I did the atkins diet back last summer after having a baby in may and lost 14 lbs in about 12 days. it was great, but once you stop it is hard to get back on. I also did the protein power diet which is low carb too, and i lost 30 lbs which helped my pcos alot and then i got pregnant. I know that losing weight, taking met, drinking water, and low carbing definetly help pco. I had one baby before i knew i had pcos and then 7 yrs later i had another baby. I attribute the second baby to losing weight and met. so i want to join everyone here. I will let everyone know when i start, how it is going! I encourage everyone to stick with this diet!! and dont go back! It is soooo hard to go back to it once you leave!!!

Default 6 days in and....

I feel great! How are we all doing? I'm still holding at 6 lbs., but I've also been eating a lot the last two or three days. I'm on my last week of a 3 month cycle of birth control pills, which means I should start my period by Tuesday and then hopefully.. have a normal cycle for the first time in several months. We'll see! But anyway, I think that's why I've been so hungry. My husband is driving me nuts! He loves all of the food I'm eating, but he won't just do the diet with me, so when I went grocery shopping, I only bought enough of everything for me... except now, he's decided that he like eggs and sausage for breakfast every morning too.
AHHHH!! Sorry, just a small rant! He's a seminary student and money is extremely tight, so just when I thought I was all set on groceries, he's eating everything I had planned on for the next two weeks.
Oh well! All in all, it has been a good almost week! I think for me the key has been to get into a routine- I've walked varying distances every day, drank at least 64 oz. of water, gotten enough rest, and had three meals, no more than 6 hours apart. I bought more of the Atkins shakes and got two of the bars. The cookies and cream bar is delicious and I have a chocolate decadance in the refrig. for when my chocolate cravings get out of control. I have survived almost a week with a ton of Easter candy from my mil and have not even wanted to touch it, plus I haven't had other cravings either. I realized last night that everything I've eaten this week has come from the refrigerator or freezer, instead of the cupboard. Interesting.
I made a Buffalo Chicken Dip for dinner the other night, it's really more of an appetizer, but it's so good that I make it for dinner frm time to time. I realized that on the Induction phase, I can have every one of the ingredients, minus the crackers, so I whipped some up. It's so delicious. Let me know if anyone is interested in the recipe. I don't like hot things, but I love this and it's HOT!
Well ladies, have a wonderful weekend! Keep up the great work! See you all on Monday!
Lisa

Hi guys!! I made it past friday!! We had a birthday party in my class. and there was a ton of cupcakes and cookies! (i teach 3 year olds!) We have another one monday, so i have to stay strong. I have been battling my salt/munchie cravings right now. For some reason I always crave salt before I start af. I am weird I guess. Anyway, been buying peanuts. I wanted to get the little snack bags like you find at convenience stores because that is a set amount of peanuts, but all I could find where i was shopping was a can, and I was pressed for time. I have to discipline myself not to grab too many handfuls! still down 3 lbs.
Lisa, I would love to get that recipe. Is it a dip? What are you dipping in it now, or are you just eating it? my dh is a goat and will eat anything. I'm sure he would love to try it. He says he is proud of our little diet group too.

Have a great, low carb weekend!

Smile hey, mind if I hang out with you?

I also started Atkins the monday after Easter! I've lost 7 pounds in 6 days, so I'm thrilled. I started low-carbing in February, and only lost at a rate of 4-5 lb. per MONTH for feb. and march.....so I am psyched! However, I'm sure you can relate to how sick I am of meat and eggs and cheese at this point....and how tempted I'm getting at certain points. I also find myself mindlessly grabbing at junk--and then pulling my hand back--what bad habits I've developed. Anyway--it's neat to meet a few of you who are in the same place as I am on this weight loss journey...I have about 80-85 more pounds to go...so I'll be here a while.

Welcome Angelas! The more the merrier!
Is any one using keto stix to measure how far they are in ketosis? They are a neat visual to kinda prove that you are losing weight. You can find them at walgreens or eckerds in the pharmacy. They arent out on the shelves down here. We just got a box. Its neat seeing the stick turn purple. woo hoo!!
And dont forget that next week we can (if you want) bump up our daily allotment of carbs to under 30 per day! I think I may hang out at under 20 another week though, just to lose a little more a little faster.
What is everyone else going to do?

Default hi!

I think I'm going to stick to induction--I'm going to try for a month, but we'll see if I make it. I haven't used the ketosis strips--are they expensive? My grocery bill sure was today!!! But--I was down another pound and a half this morning...so I'm not going to complain too much!! My carb cravings are disappearing too....

The keto stix are about $15.00 for 50. But I think it is worth it to actually SEE that you are doing the right things. It's kinda cool!
Our grocery bills have gone up too. All the meat.
Making deviled eggs right now for lunch for the next couple of days. They are almost free!! (carb wise.)

Smile Atlins diet

Hi ladies,

I also started the Atkins diet on Monday, the day after Easter. I would love to join in. I was a little hesistant in the beginning of the diet because I had a headache for the first two days. Then as I read the book it states that it was good that I had a headache it means that my body is withdrawing from all that junk that I used to put in it. I'm too scared to get on the scale to see if I've lost any weight yet so I'll just let my clothes tell the story. Is anyone tired of eating the same thing everyday? I sure am! I need tips and ideas for dinner and dessert. Any responses would be appreciated.
Thanks
Teri

Hi Teri!
Welcome!! From time to time i put ideas in my posts, and Lisa has posted one about a buffalo chicken dip that I am hoping she will post the recipe for. What are you eating now? Tomorrow night we are having bacon cheese burgers without the buns. My husband loves grilling and this diet has helped him show off his talents. Post what you are eating now, and I'll see if I can come up with any ideas.
The Better homes and gardens cookbook (red plaid cover) has carb info under each recipe. That has been really helpful for me. I just made deviled eggs for lunch for next week. They have less than one gram in them, and they are great!!
Hope this helps!

Smile

Hi everyone. I'm so glad our group keeps getting bigger! How are we all doing? I'm down 7 lbs. in 7 days and started a new week on Induction with a bang. I had been on birth control for 3 months and this is the last week, so my period is starting. I'm craving anything edible. It's horrible, but I've been able to keep my intake to only things I'm allowed to eat.
Is anybody else doing more than 2 weeks of Induction? I thought I remembered others saying they might. I'm going to try 3 weeks total on Induction and then move to Phase 2, depending on the weight loss.
The Buffalo Chicken Dip, I have no idea how many carbs it has, porbably not too many and everything is on the Induction menu.
Here it is:
3 large boneless skinless chicken breasts
12 oz. Red Hot sauce
1 c. Ranch dressing
2- 8 oz. cream cheese
3/4 c. celery
Shredded Cheddar cheese

DIce celery and boil until tender.
Cook chicken with Red Hot sauce. Shred.
Add Ranch dressing and cream cheese. Cook until mixed together well.
Put into 13 x 9 inch baking dish and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
You can serve it with crackers, or just eat it. (That's what we normally do anyway.)
It's great at parties, but my husband and I love it for dinner too!

Hope you like it!
Lisa
