Default For those mommies with twins...

Hi moms and moms-to-be,

So I'm completely depressed today for several reasons and just had a question for you. FOr one I found out my aunt died this mornign and I'm stuck on bedrest so I can't go to the funeral and 2...we're having twins (a boy a girl). I'm 32 weeks today and at first they were worried they weren't measuring big enough..but TODAY they have gained a LOT! One if 4lb 13 oz and the other 4 lbs 6 oz. They are afraid I might have gestational diabetes after all and are going to re-test me next week since they grew so fast. I don't want unhealthy, huge babies. =( I"m completed scared to death. Have any of you had this problem and have it NOT be diabetes? Maybe just a growth spurt? Guess I"m just looking for personal experiences. Thank you =(

I have twins born at 36w5d, one 5.10 the other 6.3 - I did not have GD. So sounds like perhaps your babes are a little bigger than mine were, and mine were pretty good sized. So I suppose it could be a sign of GD, but it doesn't mean it HAS to be. They can certainly give you meds to control it, at any rate. It would suck if you do have it, but it doesn't mean the babes will be unhealthy, not with propers meds and/or diet adjustment.

Good luck.

Weight estimates of babies are notoriously wrong - I wouldn't worry just yet.

There's lots of moms told to expect a 9-10 pound whopper who end up with a much smaller baby.

Unfortunately the reverse can also be true and tiny babies turn out big... but in most cases they seem to over estimate.

I am 34 weeks and at my scan yesterday A was 6.6 and B was 5.8. I have been tested for GD twice and passed. I just think I have big babies. My son was 8.4 at 38 weeks and although I did have GD with him it was diet controlled and he is and has been perfectly healthy.

My babies are already weighing 1 lb and 1 lb 1 oz at 21 wks, which is ahead of the curve. My dd was 9 lbs 12 oz at 39 wks and I was checked for GD twice with her. I think I just have big babies. DS was 5 lbs 13 oz at 36 wks and they figure he would have gained minimum 1/2-1 lb a week in the last month so he was set to be a 9 lb baby too.

If you do have it it's pretty easy to get under control, but I wouldnt' worry about your babies being too big or unhealthy, I'm sure they'll be fine

Dani, my boys weighed exactly the same at my 21 week US!!! I was excited to see them big. I would almost welcome a mini-minor touch of GD if that meant my babies would be bigger.

The weight estimates are often very wrong. Good for you not many weeks left! I only made it to 28 weeks with my twins.
