hello my name is taramac. i am a newbie to the site. i have had pcos officially diagnosed for three years. i had been tested ten years ago after having 3 miscarriages, weight gain, and erratic periods. back then they said i didn't have it!
frustrating because now i am infertile, have severe pain when bleeding, two to six weeks, and a frustrated husband since clomide, metformin, and bc donnot help me.
i am what the doctor called pill sensitive, so i suffer alot of side affects from px.
back then if they would've got it right i could have avoided alot of my symptoms now, and possibly have a child.
any others who went thru series of misdiagnosis'?

Hi, I am new to this thread and the subject line of the thread says exactly what I am going through right now. I have been bleeding for close to a month now. I am not taking any birth control pills as I am worried about their long term side effects - am on Metformin 1000mg twice a day and some multivitamin and primrose oil.

Pelvic pain on the left side and heavy bleeding - scared to go to the obgyn for fear of being put on birth control. It all started with hair loss and irregular long periods. They put me on synthyroid - made my hair shed more like crazy so stopped that. Is there anything I can do to stop these periods??? Thanks for all your support and sharing of your knowledge and experience.

I've had pelvic pain as long as I can remember. I didn't know where my ovaries were but I always remember the pain radiating from my bikini line and shooting down my leggs to my knees. My parents thought it was growing pains, however, now I'm 31 and I still get them when I'm not on a birth control pill. I used to take ortho tri cyclen but I'm about to start Yaz and it's supposed to be better for PCOS. I forgot about the pain and got off bc because I'm single but then the pain came back. Yeah my ex-gyn said pelvic pain is not a symptom of PCOS. I said well then, I want a hysterectomy because I'm not gonna live with this pain the rest of my life. Then she took me serious and put me on birth control. She took an ultrasound and I didn't even have the cysts at that time but the pain was sure there. Well, that's my experience, birthcontrol makes the pain almost dissapear for me.

I am 31 and I just had a hysterectomy 3 weeks ago. I guess I had the trifecta in the reproductive department or it was the recipe for the perfect storm! I have pcos, endometriosis, and adenomyosis. I was blessed enough to have 3 great kids, my Dr. said that if I hadnt had them young I probably wouldn't have any. I had pelvic pain and horrible bleeding for years that got progressively worse. From the research I've done I learned that pelvic pain is usually caused by endo but if it radiates down the legs its most likely adeno but the only way to confirm adeno is during hysterctomy. For years I was told that I had a fibroid but it turned out to be the adeno. I was conflicted about getting the hysterectomy but when they got the pathology report I knew it was the right thing because it would have gotten worse and I can't even imagine that! I hope this helps anyone with these problems. Oh and any Dr. who says that pcos doesnt hurt has never had a cyst get big and burst! I'd rather give birth to a 15 pound baby naturally than go through that again!

Hi Everyone!

I just went off of Yasmin because I want to try and treat my PCOS through diet. I knew the pill was masking a lot of symptoms, but I am amazed to find that I FEEL as if I'm having my period ALL MONTH. My ovaries feel 'hot' with sharp pains and crampy, but I'm not bleeding. My best guess is that my period is really due in about 4-5 days, and I'm curious to see if I really do have it!

Has anyone noticed a decrease in the pain over time, as you changed your diet?

Has anyone else gone off of the pill and felt something similar, and what did you do about it?

In my case I'm not 'obese' but I have a body type that hides weight well and everyone thinks I weigh less than I really do. I went off the pill because I could tell that it was allowing me to just kind of hang out and ignore the fact that I have to change something unless I want to slowly keep gaining weight and have a full beard by the time I'm 35. sigh...

Thanks for any comments,
Rebe

Who is this Dr. Samuel Thatcher? I am having such a hard time finding a good OBGYN that understands my PCOS.. I am always in constant pain but when I take birth control it gets SO much worse. It actually affects my daily life. But I can't take metformin because of liver problems but I can't not take anything because I bleed for months at a time. I need a doctor that will help and listen. There is only so much my endocrin can do.

I especially love when the doc is a man and says that the pain couldn't possibly be that bad and that nothing is wrong. Because I so enjoy an evening in the ER every now and again.

Have you had your doctor check for Endometriosis? I have this and PCOS and the signs are similar but it can cause pain in places that you had mentioned. I would ask your doc and see what he or she thinks

Hi ladies! Most of you have probably already read my intro but in case you haven't : I'm Ashley, 25, my husband and I have been TTC for almost three years to no avail. I recently went to my doctor and she told me she is 100% sure I have PCOS, so I've done my blood tests and such and will start my Metformin pretty soon. I also have my RE appointment scheduled {or rather my OBGYN did it for me}, so I'm looking forward to that. My cycles are very strange as well. I'd like to tell you all about them so that maybe someone has had some experiences like me, and maybe you could tell me what medical explanation was given to you.

I started my cycles at 9 yrs old. They were alright until about 13, when they became irregular. Doc put me on Birth Control at age 14 to regulate them and supposedly help my horribly painful cramps. Regulate them it did, but it didn't help the pain. I was on BC pills until age 19 when I ended up stopping the pills because they wanted to change my brand or something, well...I got pregnant during that time. Ended up having a miscarriage at 4mths. Everything hit the preverbial fan after that. My periods were RARE after that, and I had almost no painful cramps at all. Then I would have really painful cramps and a normal period for a month, maybe two. It continued being irregular like that for a couple of years {where sometimes I would have a continuous heavy flow for two weeks, etc}. Then after I married my husband he joined the Army not long after, and was deployed not long after that. It was extremely stressful and my periods over the course of the 14 mth deployment were very sparatic. Then all of a sudden I started having periods every month but they would last 3 weeks. The first and second week I would spot maybe every other day, small amounts. The third week would be a "normal" 7-8 period. Now for the last 7 mths I've been having cycles every 2 months, but they are lasting for 3 weeks {as before}. Except this last time. I spotted for literally 3 and a half weeks, stopped, and now I have spotted again today after thinking it was over with...4 days later. Whew!

I'm pretty clueless as to what the heck is going on in there. LOL! It is so random that I can't even predict anything anymore and it's becoming so frustrating, especially now that we want to have a baby. I'm so sorry this is so long, but I just wanted to make sure I didn't leave anything out. I hope that's ok. But like I said I will start my Metformin soon and my RE apptmt should be relatively soon also, so hopefully something good will happen. Thanks for listening!!

I had similar problems with non stop bleeding. My longest peroid lasted 72 days.....yes 72 days of pouring down you leg, don't sneeze or you will flood a pad bleeding. I finally had an endometrial ablation with a lazer and I have had no problems for almost five years. NO bleeding at all. I know this may not help if you are ttc but it is a lifesaver if you are not. Amazingly it was a GP that suggested and arranged for the ablation. Keep searching for a doctor you may be suprized by a great one.

I nearly cried when I saw Interstitial Cystitis here! I've yet to meet someone else with it! I'm in utter shock after lurking for weeks!

Default Confusion to the max

I was diagnosed with PCOS in May 2008 after a miscarraige. Went onto metformin for 6 months and finished the course in December. I have not had irregular periods while on the medication, but they were extremely painful.
I am now a week late with my period, took a test and it was negative. Yesterday, I what seems to have started my period which about 4 hours later ended and have had nothing since. I went onto the internt and read up on "Implantation Bleeding" which I am not sure if this is what it is because the sites all say that the bleeding should occur before the expected period and not after the expected period.
Has this happened to anyone else before?

Default PCOS and PAIN question...

It has been a very long time since I have been on here.

I recently started having pain in pelvic area on both sides near hip bones and occasionally in center.

At first it started out as cramps with coming of AF, AF came on its own and lasted for about 11 days. The cramping pain has NOT gone away (Pain started 01/11/09). The pain has been moderate to keeping me awake at night because I can't get comfortable.

1/25-1/28: extremely tired! took naps each and every day and was still tired!

Boobs have also been sensitive and tender occasionally.

Last night I had a very tender spot on my gums on my lower jawbone, but it is better today??? I couldn't touch it or even kiss my hubby good night.
Hurt to brush, so I just rinsed out with mouthwash.

Do any of you have any ideas or suggestions, I go to the GYN doctor on Thursday in the am. I would like to go in preparred.

Thanks.
