KatieLynn,

I used to get cramps and pain so bad that they would think I was having a miscarriage (and wouldn't believe me when I insisted it was impossible!). My doctor eventually gave me an open prescription for NSAIDs (pain killers) and I would dose myself insensible whenever I needed to. I missed a lot of school because of it all.

Eventually the cramps became less painful, but I started developing other symptoms instead.

All I can suggest is that you speak with your doctor about some kind of pain control, and be insistent on determining the why of the pain.

No, sadly you are not alone Kaitie! I'm 26 and while BC keeps the schedule more or less normal now.... the pain of "ovulating" has been reduced quite a bit by being on BC and I've had one ovary removed.
I take prescription Ibuprofen for cramps & stabbing pains (1 is equal to 4 OTC ones so its cheaper buying a generic rx).... and yoga helps too. I've taken stronger pain medication, but I've given myself ulcers doing that and not eating something when I take the ibuprofen. Now I take the maximum allowed amount of ibuprofen a day (3 x 800 mg) the first few days of AF (always eat something first!) and doing stretching, yoga, and things that keep me relaxed seems to help me deal with the pain pretty well. I also have a 15lb 13 yr old cat who makes a wonderful heating pad and will sleep wherever I put him for hours. If you aren't that lucky, invest in a normal electric heating pad.... or go adopt an older cat at a shelter! lol Good luck~

Thanks guy! I've decided to schedule an appointment with the gyno instead of just my family doctor. I cannot take a lot on pain killers because I had h pylori ( the bacteria that causes ulcers) a few years back. but even half a vicodin didn't work. so wish me luck on my first gyno appointment.

Back in January when i started back on BC pills after being off for a long time and of course no mentrual i bled for about 2 months straight... it was painless but annoying.. i was going thru super tampons every few hours... once i started pack 3 the bleeding disappeared now my menstrual is light as ever... i chalked it up as old eggs being backed up... could i have been wrong?? Has this happened to anyone else??

wow! Did this make me pause!
I just found this board today, surfing around and trying to find out what's wrong with me sind my doc doesnt seem to care.
I've been a heavy bleeder since my 3rd child was born ( I've had 3 c sections.. sometimes wonder if that messed me up?) and it's getting worse by the month.
The last 3 months were horrible. This month was so bad that when I told my mom about the size of the clots she thought I was having a misscarriage instead of a period. One things for sure.. I was not pregnant. So I've been telling my doctor repeatedly about the clots, feeling weak and woozy, severe cramping and that I'm afraid to leave the house during my period because even with doubling up ( super tampons and pads) there's accidents from changing activities.... like sitting down to drive and then getting out of the car! Well he did a pelvic, then an ultrasound, told me I'm fine and put me on birthcontrol but other than gaining 30 lbs in 8 months, there was no result. Last appt. he said he thought I was exagerating about the " handsized clots"! What am I to do? Short of being gross and saving the evidence in a zippy bag? My husband is ready take me to the ER next period, he is scared b/c my mom had uterine cancer, but the doc says I'm fine... whatever that means, right?
It doesnt help that we're overseas and the military docs here are totally understaffed and overworked. Any thoughts?
SusiQ is a little panicked.

When i was going thru my bleeding episode i remember sitting on the toilet and i felt this WEIRD feeling in my vagina and the urge to "push". Then a plop in the toilet. I thought it was my tampon but it was a blood clot the size of a golf ball that had slipped PAST my tampon. I called my dr and of course hes like you're probably miscarrying im like NO thas not possible because ive never had sex to get pregnant. I brought my clot to him in a zip loc bag and he was stunned. It was just a blood clot. Luckily my bleeding stopped shortly after that but it was SCARY

I don't know how true it is and don't know how many of you have pelvic pain. I do however...and the funny thing is when i asked my dr (a midwife who diagnosed me) said "it's just spasms with your cervix, no big deal"....i'm like no BIG DEAL? Your not the one who has it now are you:?

This is exactly how I feel. I couldn't count the number of times I've literally called the doctor crying in pain and they seem like they could give a sh*t less. I feel like I'm stuck because No one will help me and the pain has gotten so bad that I've literally had to take a leave from school because I can't deal with the constant pain.

Default Pelvic Pain

Yea I can definitely agree that the pain thing sucks a big one. I started out with moderate but not really there pain in my pelvic area that my doctor originally found at a yearly well woman exam..so started the tests..no matter what they did the pain just wouldn't seem to go away so it seemed like each doctor in turn prescribed pills, did what they thought they call a decent and expensive bout of blood tests and ultrasounds to diagnose me and each one in turn would give up and refer me to someone else. Therefore passing the buck. I ended up in so much pain and I FINALLY had a very painful ultrasound that revealed my ovarian cysts. I scheduled surgery with my GYN where she went in, poked around, diagnosed me with PCOS but didn't truly DO anything. And she acted shocked when I came back, STILL in pain. Another doctor, another buck, more tests, and ANOTHER surgery later my severe pain is gone and now I'm on Met and tons of BC with Darvoset on the side as needed. So yes, the pain is so very real. I missed 2 months of work over it so I can DEFINITLY agree with you!!!!

My doctor said that due my cysts, they had caused my ovaries to swell contributing to my pain as well..

I can relate to what you all are saying. Recently, I had such severe abdominal cramping and bleeding I went to the Emergency Room. OF course the only thing they could do was to run tests and offer pain meds. Well, my ENdo GYnecologist put me on BC and I am feeling 90% better. The severe cramping has subsided and my cycle is back to normal.

My heart goes out to anyone going through this because the pain can be unbearable at times. I was in such pain one time that I felt I didn't want to even go on anymore. IT was so severe that the pain would be down in the vaginal area as well. One time I remember being on the toilet for about 4 hours because of the large blood clots I was passing and the pain.

At this point I know I need to loose weight before I even think about having a baby which is in the near future. I am 5 ft 9 and weigh over 300 pounds.

Much love to you all!

Default the battle of the bulge

yea I can agree with the weight thing..I'm only 5'2" and at my heaviest I weighed about 220lbs which was sadly at the time of my first wedding in 2003. Now I'm down to about about 175lbs and although I'm a little lighter I just can't seem to shake off the rest of the weight..I keep trying to get the motivation to start the South Beach Diet like my doctor says but I'm really struggling with finding food that I can grab and go with..I have a feeling that when I do find that balance it would really pay off..

I get suuuch an achy back before AF.. It's like stabbing at times, or this dull ache that feels like my ovaries are trying to claw out through my spine/back... Hopefully the BCP I've just been put on will help..

Default Hi ! I'm new

I decided to start here because this is what I am dealing with at the moment. I have been bleeding since April 15. Mostly moderate-almost hemorrhaging with a lot of flooding. I had a D&C a couple of weeks ago with hysteroscopy. The doctor found polyps , a fibroid , a very tipped and prolapsed uterus, a very hard to find cervix and " a whole lot of matter that had to be taken out " I think he meant endometrial as my lining was thickened and my uterus enlarged

He said that I would keep bleeding ( true) He gave me BC pills and half way through the second pack without taking the sugar pills in between , I am down to a light flow. Oh , he said I need to have a hysterectomy , and I have complete pelvic floor prolapse and lot's of adhesion's and it all needs to be fixed. Plus , I had hernia surgery October 2008 with mesh and that has to be cut through or around. I can't have vaginal surgery because of the position of my uterus.

I also understand the obesity thing. I have non-classical adrenal hyperplasia and PCOS as well as tons of other health problems , so with everything taken into account , my Gyn. is sending me 3 hours away to the University of Michigan so a specialized team can work on me . Aren't I blessed ?

Well , that is my ranting introduction of myself at the moment. Sorry ! I didn;t sleep all night because of a low blood sugar episode from my diabetes , then I tossed and turned so much I am in pain now. I am going to take some meds and try to sleep later.

OK , I have rambled enough.

You definitely aren't alone. I know the exact stabbing pains that you speak of. I would be so embarrassed when it happened at work. Once, I was getting out of my chair when it hit. I was talking to someone and the look of panic on her face when she saw me grimace and double over. I tried to shake it off but I think I really scared her. I didn't want anyone else to know. During these times, I can't stand up straight but can't bend either and getting in and out of a small car is impossible. I had to trade vehicles with my sister who has a small SUV for a few days because I couldn't get behind the wheel of my Prism without screaming in pain. A lot of the times these pains would occur with the passing of a large clot. I've been prescribed Naproxen for mine and it does help for me whereas acetaminophen and ibuprofen didn't work.

I have started to have pelvic pain this year! My old doctor told me that she will not recognize it as a symptom of PCOS! But it was totally painful, and it even disrupted my daily activities. It usually came weeks before my period, and it's really sharp and painful! I had tests done but it didn't show anything except PCOS. It's really hard to find a doctor who understood my pain. It frustrates me

Jane Heiza

Metformin 500 mg three times a day
Reductil 15 mg capsule once a day
Conceived naturally despite having PCOS!
