Unhappy

Unfortunately they say pelvic pain isn't 'common' but I have always had it, sometimes it is worse than others. All the doctors say "oh take some ibuprophen" or "I don't know what is causing your pain

Sorry - I am a little frustrated with it all today but it is the same 'ol story everytime I go to the doctor.

So in short - Yes I believe pelvic pain is common with this syndrome

Just throwing my tidbit in. Have you ever been checked for uterine fibroids? I have pcos and I have a 12cm fibroid that doesn't hurt but does give me lots of lower abdomen pressure and lower backache.

I was diegnosed at the age of 14 before i was diegnosed i was having no monlthy cycles and also i just had the pain. Apparently my GP thought it was nothing to worry about, as it could be due to stress or growing too quick for my age but im finally sorted out so im feelin much better
the thing that used to help me with the pain was IBS tablets but have no affect on me now.

Default pain is excruciating...

Chronic pelvic pain is the worst aspect of my PCOS & has actually destroyed my marriage. The pain I experience is triggered by arousal (NOT intercourse, arousal) & has woken me up on many occassions from an erotic dream.

When I say 'pain', I am not referring to normal menstrual cramps or discomfort. It is so severe that when it hits, I cannot stand straight, I can only double over. It has made me vomit, & pouring cold sweat & uncontrollable shaking usually accompany it. The usual duration is around 30 minutes. I have found NOTHING that can relieve the pain: no position, no painkiller, nothing.

Despite many doctor's attempts to find a source for the pain, none has been discovered. I don't have endometriosis, fibroids, or cancer. My uterus has always been retroverted & one doctor thought she saw some scarring on it but didn't think it was severe enough to be causing the pain I experience.

For the 1st 5 years of my marriage I hid the pain from my husband. I was afraid that if he knew I couldn't enjoy the physical part of our relationship, he would lose interest in marital relations. Turns out I was right; when I couldn't hide the pain from him & explained what I had been experiencing our sex life started dying off. Within 2 years he was seeing other women. End result is that our divorce became final last month.

Does anyone else here experience pain at this level? It would be really helpful to me to know that I'm not some sort of sexless eunuch (having a beard thanks to the PCOS definitely doesn't help in this regard!) and that this really is part of the syndrome. If you have experienced this severe pain, are there any suggestions you can offer me? I'd love to be able to be with someone in the future...

Thanks!

Default pelvic pain...

Well I've always had that constant pressure in my pelvic region but back in Dec 2006 I started having severe pain and pressure. The pain went to tolerable then within a week of time for my period it was back. I went back to the gyno and he sent me for ultrasounds of course. Those came back fine and he said that it was my left ovary trying to override my BC pills. He put me on Fortamet (which is Metformin) for the 3rd time to see if maybe I could tolerate this time. When I went back in April told him I couldn't tolerate the Fortamet and that if I didn't have to have my job I would stay out of work on the 3-4 days before my period and about 3 after it started almost every month because of the pain. He said we could do surgery when I got to the point that I couldn't take it anymore. I said when do you want to do it! He cut cysts off both ovaries and wedged them both on May 25. Now I'm waiting to see how the surgery will help. The pain is PCO related. If your doctor says different then maybe they aren't educated on PCO enough to be treating it! My dr told me real quick like after we got the ultrasound results that it was because of the PCO. Sorry this is so long hope someone gets something out of it though. God Bless.

I have been through a battery of tests but I don't know if they checked for fibroids. Last April (2006) I had the ovarian wedge resection and endimetreosis removed, and still have the pain and it seems to be combined with pressure.
How does one check for the fibroids?

Thanks!

I have been having severe pelvic pain for as long as I can remember. About a month ago while I was at work I felt like a very sharp needle was poking me inside and then this severe, crippling pain coming from my left side =( Since being on Met I have gotten one AF that was light the really heavy (changing Super Plus tampons every hour!) then being light again at the end. After my AF the pain returns, and it is always on the left side =(

Default Motrin or Ibuprofin for constant bleeding?

I am curious how many of you have been told to take Ibuprofin to stop the non stop bleeding. That's what my doctor said to do today and I have a hard time seeing how it will help. How will that stop the flow and what then happens to all the flow? It has to go somewhere, right?

Salsal- I'm no doctor, but it seems to me like an ibuprofen product would be contraindicated in your situation. Ibuprofen is related to asprin, which is actually a blood thinner. I would think that taking anything that will thin your blood would actually make the bleeding worse. You may want to call your Dr.'s office and ask for clarification.

As for me, I was diagnosed with PCOS in December 2006 after 3 failed Clomid cycles. I had ovarian drilling surgery in April and have been bleeding ever since. For the first 3 weeks, the bleeding was very ligh and brownish in color. Then it turned to bright red, fresh blood, and got a little heavier. My Dr's nurse and I agreed that this change signaled the start of AF. That was 4 weeks ago, and I'm still having the light bleeding. It never got heavy and I never got cramps. The nurse explained it to me that I probably had avery thick endometrium from being anovulatory for so long, and that it will probably take a while for it to clear out. 4 weeks seems like a very long time to have AF and I'm really starting to wonder if there's something else going on. I'm really getting sick of bleeding!!!

I have had a doctor recommend that I try taking Aleve before. Supposedly it affects your prostaglandins and slows down the stimulation of your uterus (causing it to contract)which in turn slows down the bleeding - but doesn't actually stop it. I guess when your prostsglandins are working overtime and stimulating the uterus, they also stimulate your stomach, etc. and that can sometimes cause diarrhea while you are bleeding heavily.
I have tried this before - Sometimes I can't tell if it makes a difference, but on the few odd occasions where I have extreme heavy bleeding AND the stomach upset/diarrhea issue it actually does work. :-)

Well I tried the Motrin 600mg for a couple days. Every time I take it, AF stops for a few hours but then it comes back if I don't keep taking it. I didn't have diarrhea or anything. I feel like this is just a quick fix and I need to check back with my Doc. I don't want to always take Motrin-seems like it isn't really helping in the long run. I think my hormones are all screwy because 2 months ago I took Clomid and AF hasn't stopped since... I am thinking of switching doctors because I feel like I am always a nuisance when I call.

Despina-I haven't really experienced bloating or pelvic pain so I don't know what to tell you. But welcome! I am new too.

kdwg8r-I know what you mean about wanting AF to stop! It really sucks when you're not sure what's going on in your body. What was the ovarian drilling surgery like and how did you and your doctors decided that's what was right for you?

I don't know for sure, but the information that came with my metformin cautioned against using too much Ibuprofen, so if you were taking met as well, I'd be careful about taking ibuprofen. I practically lived on it, but I switched over to Tylenol which does nothing for nonstop bleeds. Like I said, I'm not sure about the interactions, I just know there was a warning.

I agree - now that I'm on Metformin I would think very carefully before taking Ibuprofen (or anything else). Once I went crazy with the Ibuprofen and took it for 2 weeks straight, and then I had elevated liver enzymes (DUH) so I never did that again. At that point I was so desperate to stop the massive bleeding I would have tried ANYTHING!
