I also have pelvic pain, but it doesn't feel like cramps. This is a very sharp, and sometimes brings you to your knees doubled over kind of pain. I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS, and I was diagnosed with IBS a LONG time ago. I never really new where this pain was coming from, and none of my Dr.'s could ever give me a straight answer either. Does anyone out there have sharp pain in your pelvic area, or is it more like cramps? Thanks in advance for you input!

I would have them check to see if you have Endometriosis.... that is exactly what mine feels like. Some sharp, sometimes dull, or even sometimes a "burning" sensation on my pelvic areas.

Ok, I was afraid that my uterine wall is thick b/c after I had my son like 17 months ago, I didn't have a period for 6 months! Then I would have one every other month, or every 2 of 3 months. I asked my GYN if I should have a DNC or something but she said no. I have been talking with my husband a lot recently, and I think we have agreed that we both want an ultrasound done. Will an ultrasound show endometriosis?? My husband wants me to have the ultrasound to check on my ovaries, and to make sure there are no large cysts or tumors, but I want one to make sure my uteris is ok.

No, an ultrasound wont tell you if you have endometriosis.

I would, like your husband suggested, first start off with the ultrasound to make sure its not any cysts. And of course I would have them do some blood work to make sure that is all ok.

Generaly the doc will just ask you some questions and he will do a "test". TMI WARNING.... the doc will put two fingers on your wooha and press up by the ovary. If when he presses up by your ovary or wherever the pain is and it hurts... then chances are you do have it. But its something the doc can look at. The next step depends on what they find.

WOW! TYVM and I LOVE YOU!! LOL

I was sitting here trying to figure this out myself. I have been *FIGHTING* With my gyn to get a lap done to see why all the pain keeps happening down there but I always have this nagging guilt/fear that they will do it and find absolutely nothing wrong. But I am in severe pain during intercourse and pelvic exams are excrutiating. If my left ovary is touched, I darn near jump off the table and it radiates for several minutes after the exam. I went home last night after the exam and my left ovary was throbbing and woke up this am and it is tender now, but not like it was yesterday, thank Heaven. If what you said it true, then goodness, they should be able to see something with a lap because the thought of someone even coming near me with a glove on is making me want to cry. Did I mention I'm hormonal? I will keep searching the boards but I don't post that much- yet, but your post was like an "AH-HAH" moment for me. I think I should petition for the lap again. I let her schedule it and then cancel it in lieu of the dreaded IUD which caused me to hemorrhage and bleed like no tomorrow, but this time, I'm not taking no for an answer. TY TY TY

I would not take no for an answer either. Tell the doc that you have done research and you feel this is what may be causing the pain. If she says no.. then change to another doc. I went through about 6 or 7 docs, all telling me that I was fine and "just complaining" then finally a doc on the very first visit mentioned endometriosis to me and we scheduled the Lap for a month out and I am sooo glad we did. Its still not understood and many docs do not feel that it is a big deal. Just like many docs are struggling I guess you can say to understand pcos... its the same for endometriosis. But here are some of the symptoms..

pelvic pain

pain before and/or after menstruation

severe menstrual cramps

painful intercourse

painful orgasms

heavy or irregular menstrual bleeding

painful bowel movements often with cycles of diarrhea and constipation

infertility

intestinal distress such as bloating, vomiting, nausea

lower back pain

bladder pain and/or frequency

fatigue

I would look into that more and if needed get a few different opinions by different docs. The doc who finally mentioned it to me was a fertility/gynocologyst (sorry cant spell that lol).

I for one have had chronic pain for years and years and years. Even though I am obviously diagnosed with PCOS, Dr. cannot find a solid reason for it. In my opinion it is part of the wonderful world of PCOS. I could be wrong.... Either way, the pain is getting old. It wears on me and then fatigue sets in........o happy pcos day! hehe

i have pelvic pain once in w while, maybe like once or twice a year. I mean, really bad pelvic pain, it most paralyzed my half body. I was almost not able to talk. last year, when it was on for a few days, i went to see a nurse, she asked me to rate the pain level in the examination room, i told here it was 6, she was like "it is stress." and nothing was given to me and suggested me to take some advil.

Blondie... You sound alot like my situation. It's awful I know. For the most part of my life I had horribly irregular periods. Like I would maybe only have four periods in a years' time. But, something drastically changed somehow. In the beginning of last year, I had horrible bleeding come on all of a sudden. Clots, but very light cramping if at all. Where I used to have horrible cramps, just felt like diff cramping. I went on bleeding like that for nearly six months. I dreaded going to my OB again. See, he put me on something before to make me start my period. Then, put me on clomid. Then, ran some tests to check my progesterone levels and other hormones as well. Well, my progesterone was low, and estrogen was high! I was not ovulating for some reason! So, I stayed on clomid for about six months, along with increasing dosages. My progesterone level only went up once, to 14 ... my usual low is 0.5 or lower! Then, it crashed again. I thought of course maybe I was pregnant,, ya know?!? The side effects of the clomid were horrid. Hot flashes, mood swings, just feeling not myself! So, about two years later, if that, is when I started bleeding all that time. Then, decided to go back to my OB. I was tired all the time.. it wasn't good. So, he then put me on something again to stop bleeding this time. I had a laproscopy, dye test, and dnc in March. They found a endometrial mass in my right fallopian tube and some more endometriosis around my cervix. Ovaries were fine though he said. So, I thought again well, maybe I have a chance to conceive now. Well, I started bleeding again, but no cramps at all... just bleeding.. so i went back ... he sent me to a endo. Which I did not like at all... he didnt listen to me... but he said by looking at my lapros pics.. i have pcos now! Because my ovaries appeared smooth.. no follicles at all. He wanted to start giving me injections... to see me ovulate and put me on some med for breast cancer patients! So, I told him to send me info on it all, cause i was confused! NEVER DID... So, now I am taking matters in my own hands.. I started the natural way.. vitex, cinnamon, chromium, and i changed my eating habits. I've only been doing this for two or three weeks. Just started on the cinnamon and chromium today though. It's supposed to help stop the bleeding. I've done alot of research about herbs . It seems to be a better route to go through everyhting i've researched. It takes awhile...months to see a change with herbs. But, it's worth a shot.. and not as expensive thats for sure. I cant wait to go back to my OB if I conceive on my own, and tell him I did it naturally. Well, I dont kow if i helped your situation. I have seen probably four or five different doctors. I cant find one that seems to know anything!! Then, when they do try and help I only get worse.... thats why i'm now doing this myself...naturally! Thanks.. for reading this long reply... but, i hope i help. Good luck to you!

I recently had my period for 6 months straight. I was passing super large blood clots and towards the end I had severe abdominal cramps so bad that I couldn't stand up. I have no insurance and I didn't know what to do.
Has anyone else had severe abdominal cramping like this?

I am not sure what to do with the long periods. I have experienced them but they were never painful they were just annoying. I would say you should find out how your iron is doing and discover the root of the underlying cause. It might cost you more in the longterm letting this go. And, if they have to put you on bc to control the bleeding. that will probably be cheaper than all the pads and tampons... Some doctors also have sliding scale fees.

I thought I should comment here. I had a very very long period once, well twice.

The first time it happened I was 16 and my period started, and it was heavyish. It stopped 3 weeks later, the *day* before my appointment with a gyno. I was subsequently diagnosed with PCOS, and amazingly nothing was done. I was told "lose weight." But thats another rant.

Anyway, years later I got it again, and it just never stopped. I'm not sure I'm comfortable saying how long. I was so embarrassed by it because I really thought it was all my fault, and that I was some how less for not having been able to lose the weight and make it stop. So I never made a doctors apt.

I started low carb, and a little less than a week in my period stopped. I was so freaking happy. I continued with low carb, and my period came back about a month later. I think I cried the whole seven days it was there, I was so afraid it wasn't going to end. But it did! And then the dang thing came every 28 freaking days, on the dot, at like the same time every time (for over year, and the year before I was married lol). Until I fell off of the bandwagon.

I just wanted to impart my experience with the excessive bleeding thing. Good luck to anyone, and everyone with it.

I have had a lot of pelvic pain recently and it seems to increase after sex, often lasting for a few days. It can be unbearable. I thought I was crazy because my endo said he had never heard of pelvic pain being related to PCOS and seemed to insinuate that I was making it up. THANK YOU! Thank you for reminding me that I know my body better than some endo with a superiority complex. Thank you for reminding me that this is not all in my head. It is so much comfort to know I am not alone.
