Thumbs up for those of us continueing to TTC....

A combined protocol starts with a month of birth control pills, and two weeks later a GnRH-analogue is added. With the menses that follows the end of the pill cycle, injections of FSH are initiated for a period of 8-12 days. This protocol can reduce the risk of miscarriage by 50 percent.

An article in The Cincinnati Enquirer (Monday April 17, 2000) reported the preliminary research findings of Dr. Charles Glueck from the Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati. Dr. Glueck's work suggests that the medication Metformin (also known as Glucophage) may reduce the incidence of miscarriage in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). He found that of the women with PCOS who were taking Metformin, the miscarriage rate was 9%, compared to a 45% miscarriage rate in women not taking Metformin. He feels this medication may be helpful for women with PCOS seeking to conceive

The miscarriage rate appears to be higher for women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Some studies suggest that the miscarriage rate could be 45% or more.

While this information is helpful for those that are IR and are candidates for Met or Gluc, it doesnt help cysters like myself who are not IR and have elevated androgen levels - leave one wondering?????
