When did you start telling your family?

We've got until Jan. 20 before the baby. So we don't know if we want to tell everyone yet or not.

We want to show people to U/S pics and want people to be happy.

We have told people we work with.


Also when did you do a baby shower?

We're not that far in yet, having a placement or birthparents choosing us. But everyone knows we are going thru the adoption process. I would say maybe oct or nov would be a good time for a shower, because Dec is so crazy. The only other thing you can do is have it early January, but some people are still running around from the holidays that it might not be a good thing.

If you have a shower after the baby comes, you could also use the shower to show off your new sweetie. That's what we did. We were given two showers after ds came home to us (my work peeps, dh's work peeps). I had been offered a shower before the baby arrived, but I just didn't feel right about it. I didn't want to have all this baby gear laying around and then have the adoption fall thru or take longer than expected or whatever.

We told our family when we made the decision that we wanted to adopt. We wanted to have an open dialogue with everybody about what their concerns and thoughts were before a baby was part of the picture. We also wanted them to be able to feel a part of what was happening in our lives. It was great to be able to do some educating about adoption and issues prior to bringing Katherine home.

We had a small family shower a couple of months before Katherine was born and then a month after we were home we had a Welcome Baby Katherine party.
