This question is for one of my friends, but what did you take to China? She has been told that once the baby is handed to her she will get nothing else. She has to pack enough diapers and formula for the entire two weeks and take it on the plane. Not to mention clothes, toys, or whatever else she wants to take for baby. That doesn't leave a lot of room for her personal needs. Anyone have any advice for packing?
The Carry On Only group has the files open in which the packing lists are so she wouldn't have to sign up for that one if she didn't want to. They also have both Carry On Only as well as Non-Carry On Only packing lists to see the difference.
They sell diapers there. It's suggested that you keep the babies on Chinese formula and transition them when you get home just in case it upsets their little tummies on your trip. We're actually traveling Carry On Only which means that all we are bringing for each of us, 1 backpack & 1 22 inch rolling suitcase on the plane. Most travel and check-in their bags. You can check in 2 bags per person and carry on a backpack & a rolling suitcase. Remember though, you'll have to carry all your luggage and a squirmy baby so obviously that would be hard if you had 4 bags & a baby to juggle it all.

Traci,
Thanks for the threads. I will pass them on to her. I was wondering why she wouldn't buy supplies there if she needed them and also about tummy upset from formula. I'm very happy she almost is ready to go get her little girl, but she tends to be exagerate the circumstances sometimes.
Traci gave good advice. I also must say your friend isn't exaggerating by much. She will be given her child and the clothes she is wearing and be thankful if there is anything else with her. And the outfit she arrives in will *most likely* not be something she will ever wear again!
The list to pack is extremely long if you want to be prepared. We did bring a bit of formula in case we were in a pinch but didn't need it since we bought 4 bags of Chinese formula and still had some to bring home and transition. The diapers there aren't the best quality and I suggest she still bring some with her. While we did use the Chinese diapers they are quite thin and wouldn't use them on the days we traveled. They were fine while we hung in the hotel and stayed close there.
As for clothing and toys for the baby...she won't need many toys-the packing lists Traci referred you to will list a few of them like toy car keys, stacking cups, a beach ball, items that are small and easily packed. And clothing--!!! she'll buy so much there that there isn't much need to pack too many things. Maybe enough outfits for one week but then wait till she sees the clothes there!
So...definitely refer her to those lists above and she'll find lots of good lists. I should get cracking on my list too! Time is drawing nearer!

LIsa-I hope you have a wonderful trip! When I meant exaggerating, I just meant that she is telling people she can't buy anything there. I thought it was strange, assuming Chinese people diaper their babies too! She is going to have to travel without her dh, so I am going to chalk it up to nerves!

lol Definitely nerves I'm sure! It's a huge trip that I'd dread going on alone. here's another tidbit you can share with her. *If* her daughter does have a diaper on she can be guaranteed it will be filled to the brim. lol Most of the babies came with full diapers on and layers upon layers of clothing, including split pants. That's how the Chinese potty train, with split panties!
Best of luck to her and you are a great friend for getting some info for her
