For all the ladies who have taken more than one kind of BCPs, which ones worked the best for you?
I used to be on Ortho Tri Cyclen and Orth Cyclen (generic) and I think they may have contributed heavily to my mood swings and migranes. I am trying to find another one b/c the need has come upon me, (new man ) but I am scared of the reaction I might have to it.
To be quite honest non of them did well with me from high to low dosages...
I started on Ortho in college not to to bad but the mood swings got worse and worse. I was depressed, crying all the time then a raging you know what the rest of the time Allese - Mood swings and acne
Yasmin -THE WORST OF THEM ALL I had such major mood swings I wanted to jump out of my own skin to kick my own butt it was truly aweful- crying, acne
Nuva Ring - Was ok - I was raging one second crying the next...It was convienant though not having to worry about poppin pills next and Definitely Last was
Lo/Ovral: The first 2 weeks were harsh, settled down for about a month then the last 2 months Back to the same old beast. My hair started falling out more and my acne was gross.
Good Luck

Do you know anyone who lives in Canada, Australia, the UK who would want to be in on a ground floor opportunity? If so, please let me know who they are!

I have tried demulen(yuck) and apri (yuck) and the ortho evra patch that was by far the worst.
My favorite of all time has to be ortho tri cyclen LO. It was fantastic. Like you I got horrible migraines, and major mood swings too, but not on ortho tri cyclen lo. There is no generic version and I think its like 34 dollars at wal mart if u don't have insurance.
Thats my recommendation!
I've tried Yasmin, Ovcon 35, Mercette. I don't want to try anymore due to being so frustrated with them. I went off them all. The best for me was Yasmin. Moods were great. Period was great. I just started to have a few symptoms after about seven months on it. I've been off for about two periods (on my own), but many, MANY of the other symptoms are back. I'vde decided to go on Yasmin until we decide to TTC. I'm a happier, nicer, less symptom-y person.
I can't handle progesterone. I feel like crazy/mad woman. That's exactly what Mercette made me feel like. I was ready to jump off of a bridge.
Ovcon . . . I was feeling REALLY randy all of the time, but I have IBS with constipation (mostly stress related, but I'm figuring out that it's hormonal related also). Ovcon stopped the flow, if you gather what I mean.
You have to find which one works for you. Usually it's trial and error. Mostly error. Good luck.
I am a member of the multiple pill users group. I have taken so many I forget all their names. From this trial and error process though I know what affects me poorly and what doesn't. My body does not like progestin and too much estrogen makes me have headaches and bloat so.., I have dabbled with many of the lower estrogen pills out there but many of them, like Mircette, have gobs of progestin in them. Yasmin has a high prgestin effect so it was bad news for me as well. I currently take ortho tri cyclen lo and do very well with it. It is low in estrogen 25 mcg. and low in progestin, even if it is triphasic. This never has bothered me though as it shuts down my ovaries nicely! I felt fabulous on Alesse but my skin got worse. Interestingly, this is the only pills I really ever had acne come back on. It probably doesn't have enough estrogen to combat the higher androgen effect. When off the pill my skin is terrible. Pregnancy made it the worse it ever was. The only bc I ever used that obviously exaggerated my PCOS and s/e was the patch. Think hard about trying this one! BEst of luck to you! It really is trial and error!
P.S. Interestingly enough I have e-mailed both the Hormone Help Center and INCID. for PCOS with a question of alternative treatments for thin women with PCOS not attempting pregnancy and both their doctors replied that bc pills were the best treatment. I guess I'll stick with them a bit longer!

Well, I've been on quite a few. Ortho-tricyclen-lo, nordette, and currently Seasonale. I did notice particularly around time for my period I would get extremely depressed, anxious, and sometimes panic type feeling would occur. Since being on Seasonale, I've noticed that I'll be ok some parts of my three month cycle. Other times I'll have an increase in anxiety or depression. I'm also on zoloft which has helped greatly.

Hmm well ive been on 3 dif types of BC.
Lo/Ovral- Had major migranes had to go to ER for the pain.
Allese- a bit more cramping with period but nothing other that that
(currently) NuvaRing- moody,tired,depressed,discomfort
Going to go back on Allese though, not too fond of ring.
I was originally on Ortho Tri Cyclen and it made me depressed. Now I'm on Mircette and it's worked really well for me. It did interact with my cholesterol medication though, but from what my doctor said, that's not a common problem. My only real problem with bcp's has been depression if I have something with a high estrogen content. That's why Mircette has been good for me--guess high progestin doesn't bother me but high estrogen does.
I think everyone reacts differently to every bcp. I've noticed that not all women here have done well with Mircette, but it's been great for me. Sometimes it takes some trial and error to figure out what works for you.
