For those who've seen improvement in your acne... (on metformin)
How long did it take? I've been on 500 mg for 3 months now & my IR has improved & having periods on my own for the first time ever. Hoping it'll help w/my acne, but wondering when I should see results if this is going to happen.
Thanks!

I really don't have any answers for you, but I, too, am about to start using metformin and I'm hoping that it'll help my acne as well as my weight. Like you, I'm curious to see if it'll clear up my skin once and for all! I'll keep you posted on my progress after I've been on it a few weeks.
Sorry...I know this hasn't been all that helpful for you, but just wanted to let you know you're not alone with this problem.
I've already mentioned this on another thread here, but I've been on metformin for only two weeks (1,000mg/day) and my skin is already clearing up! Before I had pimples that would "fester" and never heal; now, not only have all of the pimples on my face healed but I haven't been getting any new breakouts either. I still have some acne scarring but they are fading, too.
Like you, I was hoping that metformin would help my acne....well, I just didn't expect it to work this fast!
It could be....how much are you taking a day? Also, are you taking the "regular' metformin or the extended release kind? I've heard that there is a difference between these two versions. I take the regular met, 1000mg/day (500mg twice a day).
I have never had bad acne, but I've had my share of unwelcomed bouts of acne...I think it simply may vary from person to person...I noticed that my skin was 'clearer' after 2-3 weeks when I started Met...I also developed pimples from time to time while in between RX's...
Ultimately I'm yrying to say, don't expect too many miracles from Met for acne in particular, your results may vary as they say on TV! Wait to see how it manages other issues, then it may have an affect on your acne...
Good Luck!
P.S. Also try Pro-Activ's Clarifying Night Cream; I suddenly had nagging pimples aroung Thanksgiving, and by that day, they were gone just in time for TG dinner!
