I've been taking N acetyl L cysteine since about last November. I take 2 500mg capsules daily. I started taking it when I had bronchitis last fall, it seemed the the bronchitis wasn't responding to the meds from my doc. The NAC was really effective in clearing that up. I don't know about you, but it seems to me that women with PCOS are very susceptible to infections, bronchitis, throat, urinary tract, ear, etc. My daughter (also PCOS) and I certainly are. My daughter and I continued taking the NAC after the bronchitis cleared up, because it's supposed to boost the immune system and I found it gave me more energy. So far, we've staved off any serious cold/flu/infections this winter. Normally my daughter spends most of this time of year very sick with various infections developed from colds. I credit the NAC with our strengthened immunity. My father also started taking NAC for bronchitis and also finds it has increased his energy levels and no more colds for him.
We also take 2000mg MSM (menthylsulfonylmethane), another dietary supplement, for joint pain. It's worked amazingly well. I'm consistantly pain free for the first time in nearly 30 years!!! Do you have joint/muscle pain? It's a common symptom associated with PCOS.
Right now, I'm also taking CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) which is supposed to help maintain a healthy balance of fat and muscle in the body. I've not lost any weight on it, though my daughter has. I've been eating outrageously though while cooped up inside waiting for the snow to melt. Even with the way I'm eating, I've not gained any weight, does that qualify as a loss??? LOL I plan to stay on the CLA until my life gets back to normal and I can get outside again....I'm expecting that then it will make weight loss a little easier.
I also take 1000 mg of metformin daily since Jan 2001. It's helped with some symptoms, but wasn't as effective as I'd hoped.
Oh yeah....my biggest problem is trying to remember to take all this stuff regularly!!!
If you are interested in links to articles about any of the dietary supplements that I'm taking, please drop me an email requesting it.
