How do you take your Met? I'm on Glumetza and I have tried bananas, toast and anything else I can think of to get these pills down. Right not I'm only up to 2 at the same time everyday, but in two weeks I have to be up to 4 a day...4 at once? Scares me lol! I can't cut them in half, or crush them...I took regular Met before and had issues too, but not as bad. That was 3 years ago though and I don't remember what I took with them to get them down. Any help, ideas, support?! Thanks a bunch!

Sorry I dont have that bad of a problem. Do you have to take them all together or can you space them out through the day? I put the water in my mouth first. That is the only way I can get my met down.
Yeah, it's Glumetza so it's the extended release. It aggrivates me because my regular Doctor has always said it's in my head, why I can't swallow pills. It may be, but that doesn't make it any easier to get them down lol. I'll just keep trying to find something that I can take them with. Some days I'm able to get them down with a banana, but sometimes that's not even enough.

I had a problem taking Met. I could not swallow the pills. I got the liquid form from my doctor. It is called Riomet. It taste like cough syrup. I hope this helps!

I can not swallow pills either, I have to cut my tylenol in half to take it. I have learned to stand in front of the sink and just DO IT. If I think I am choking or that I might gag I spit it out in the sink and try again. Sometimes I have tried 3-4 times before I could get it down. Other times I try so many that I give up and skip that pill for the day.

I also used to have issues swallowing pills...and it still is fun sometimes, but I can do it. At least for me...it was just a matter of doing it!
(I was like 12 @ school, taking antibiotics for one of my many ear infections...and the nurse evidently missed the note saying I need my pills crushed. She handed me the cup of water & a pill in the cup. I didn't say a word, just down the hatch).
I still gag quite a bit,...but sometimes I can take 3-4 at one time (a HUGE improvement, obviously). I do find that outta all my pills though, that met has the worst coating and is the hardest.
I guess it's easier said than done, but as suggested before, I'd say stand in front of the sink, sip something that tastes good to you (not plain water) and then put the pill on your tongue (not too far back, to gag yourself)...and down she goes!
Good luck, with however you get your meds...as long as you DO get them!!!

I also used to have the same problem before. Recently, I have been able to get over it. I put the pill under my tongue deep-inside and then drink lots of water, while watching tv or divert myself in some way or the other.
I have a bad gag reflex and I have never been able to swallow anything bigger than a baby asprin without trouble. My DH has to watch me take pills in case I choke!
What seems to help for me is milk. Something about the creamy texture helps me take them more easily. Chocolate milk works even better! I just stick them on the back of my tongue and take a big gulp of milk. We go through a lot of milk in my house, just me and DH, because of my little prblem, but hey, it works... and at least I don't live in Alaska where it's $9 a Gallon!!!!

yea, i used to be very very very bad at it also, gagging multiple times and regurgitating the pills, but now that i've been on so many meds that the doctor wouldn't give other forms like liquid or whatever for, i've had to teach myself to swallow better... there are still some days i can't get things down, but most of the time i can... i started practicing with tiny things and swallowing things like soy nuts or other small food type things... then graduated to practicing with peanuts or something like that... you could try some little mints or something to begin with and see if that gets you any where, just a suggestion.
I have trouble swallowing pills, what I do is get a Tablespoon full of applesauce or yogurt and then push my pill down in the middle of it and make sure it gets covered. Then I just swallow the spoonful of yogurt/applesauce.
It helps alot, You can't even tell there is a pill in there.

I have had problems swallowing pills all my life. I hate it.
For some reason, I can swallow any kind of capsule with no problem, because they float in the liquid I'm using to swallow them. I can take them with water or anything else.
Met I have to take with a carbonated beverage. The bubbles help the pill to float and I usually get it down the first try. I put the drink in my mouth, then put the pill in and swallow.
In the past, if it was really hard to get a pill down, I've put the liquid in my mouth, then put the pill in my mouth. I get my tongue under the pill and throw it toward the back of my mouth just as I start to swallow. Most of the time it goes down with no problem.
Canned drinks are more carbonated than bottled drinks (especially 2-liters that go flat so fast!). if you wait to open the drink until you have to take the pill, you'll have the most carbonation.
I find if you put something in your mouth FIRST then the pill it works a whole lot better! A big mouthful of juice then the pills then swallow ... or Even disguise it IN something ... peanut butter sandwich, put the pill right IN the sandwich ... it works!

~ I never knew what true love was, until I married the man of my dreams and held these babies in my arms ...
The trick I learned is to put the water/liquid and the pill in your mouth and then tilt your head forward (put your chin down on your chest), then swallow. This makes the pill float to the back of your mouth and it goes down easier.
A lot of people tilt their head back once they put the pill and the water in their mouth. That makes the pill float to the front of their mouth and then it has farther to go to get down.
