For those of you who have had m/c and now pregnant
Do you get weekly b/w or how does that work? Also, do you get ultrasounds more often? My doc did say she would do more b/w next time, but I didn't ask her the frequency or anything. My first pregnant that ended in m/c they never did any betas or anything....they did the normal b/w on my first visit to test for whatever, but that was it.
Thanks!

KYLE WILLIAM IS HERE!!! BORN 8/4/07 - 8LBS 12OZ, 21 1/2 INCHES
I didn't do any blood work this time because my betas and progesterone were fine last time and I still had a m/c. I just got an ultrasound at 6 weeks. My RE saw the sac but nothing else. I have to go back on 8/1 to see if there is a baby with a heartbeat in there or not. If not it will be my 3rd loss and I can get some genetic testing done to see why this keeps happening. My advice is to get your doctor to do what you are comfortable with. Most people get 3 betas drawn. I don't know if that helps or not. If you go to a RE, they usually give you a lot more u/s. Usually every 2 weeks until you are released to the ob.

Crownline, I'm not there yet but my gyn said next time he would do u/s every 2 weeks until 12 weeks, and I will ask for b/w too to check my levels are OK (especially progesterone). Hope that helps.

Thanks, Ladies! Yeah, I'm not going to an RE, just a regular OB. I think she said if I have two losses that they will do some kind of genetic testing or something then also. I was just curious how many betas I can expect. I mean, I want to make sure everything is okay, but I don't want to have to go every day also! So kind of a catch-22!! Well, I still have another month until we can start TTC and then have to get a positive...so I have a little while to wait!!
Good luck, ChocFish!! An U/S every two weeks would be wonderful! I'd rather have them than b/w done!
Mircle06, I will be praying for you. Is there any known reason that causes an empty sac? Keep us posted! The waiting has got to be hard, but keep your chin up!

KYLE WILLIAM IS HERE!!! BORN 8/4/07 - 8LBS 12OZ, 21 1/2 INCHES
Julie - I had a m/c over 2 years ago. This is my first conception since. My dr did 2 betas in the first week, then betas once a week since. I'm having a 7 1/2 week u/s next week, then will have another at 10 weeks and another at 13.
If I get through all that with no complications, they will release me to just wait for 18 week u/s as is usual.
Just a side note - I am having to pay for this early pregnancy monitoring. It isn't usual here for only a 2nd pg. My understanding is that you have to have 3 mc's before dr's will consider you're actually genuinely at risk.
Hope this helps,
Aimee

Thanking God that one day in heaven I will meet my dear, cherished little one who died in the womb, February 2004.
Many OBs don't do b/w because 1 m/c. I had a m/c before DS1 and we didn't do anything different because of my previous m/c. I also had m/c between my 2 boys and again, nothing different.
I asked about betas and u/s and his thinking was there isn't a darn thing you can do to prevent a m/c (unless progesterone is the reason) and many times the numbers don't do what they are supposed to with doubling and it adds a lot of stress to a PG that may turn out just fine. Plus my 1st m/c had a h/b and I still m/c which I thought he told me was a less than 5% chance of a m/c after hearing a h/b.
I had a lot of extra blood work (about every 2-3 days) until week 7 and then extra u/s until week 11 (every two weeks), when I was released from my RE to my OB/GYN since everything looked ok. Then monitoring proceeded normally.
We went through an RE both times so I got multiples u/s. But with the pregnancy that resulted in my son, I did get quite a few u/s from my ob because of my previous m/c and the fact I was so worried.
Sorry I left my sig up, but i wanted to show you that it can happen.
Good luck
~tracy

First I am so sorry for each and everyone of the losses mentioned here.
I lost my Sammy at 15 weeks.Heard the HB a few times and had a good u/s at 9 weeks. My water broke at 15 weeks and he just could not make it,he was to young.
I became PG 3 months later and had a beautiful baby boy on the same day I lost Sammy, one year later.
I had 6 u/s with Mikey. One at 4 weeks,9weeks,14,18,24 and 34.But I had no beta drawn or extra blood work with either PG.
I did have an autopsy done on Sammy to find out why this happened and all they could tell me is that he had severe clubbed feet. This runs in my family. The hospital told me it was just a natural thing that happened.I dont buy that.
Before you TTC again please prepare yourself.I joined a support group which was great for DH and I.I was scared each and everyday I was PG,and the support of family and friend really helped.I wish you the best of luck and lots of prayers in your TTC journey.
DeAnna
