Hey everyone! My name is Susie and I am 16 years old. I was diagnosed with PCOS in May. It was actually quite a releif because for the longest time we didn't know what the heck was wrong with me! My periods had been coming only every 6 months (which I thought was great at the time) then i would have like a month long heavy period. Finally my doctor decided she wanted to run more blood work after being periodless for close to eleven months. She diagnosed me with PCOS. I was started on a low dose birth control to try and regulate my periods but once i started my period on June 22, I couldn't stop. I have been on a couple different meds to make the bleeding stop but it hasn't worked. I was sleeping 16 hours at a time and very weak. On thursday I saw my PCP and she sent me to the ER. I was severly dehydrated (because of the blood loss i was told) and had a BP of 79/38. The ER doc told me I was probably gonna need a D and C, but the on call gyno said it wasn't neccessary yet and we woul try to do it medically first. So right now i am still bleeding insanly heavy waiting out the ten day trial period for the progesterone. Uggg! So not fun during the summer! Hopefully this will work!
For the past week or so I have been reading the boards and it has helped me so much! I realized that I am not alone in dealing with this. I have learned a lot. I didn't even know things like excess hair were part of this. All along i just fealt like a freak! But knowing there are other people out there like me gives me confidence and makes me feel a hundred times better!
Thanks for reading! See you around! Hugs and kisses, Susie
Welcome to Soulcysters, Susie! I've had similar symptoms when it comes to bleeding. I used to bleed so heavily for so long. I would also have times of not bleeding for several months. I bled so much that I did feel exhausted and looked pale. I hope your dr. can help you get a little more regulated so you'll feel better soon.
Welcome to SC Susie! I am so glad you found us! I'm so sorry you are going through this all, but I am glad you are receiving your diagnosis early.
There are great forums here! There is even one especially for teens.
I hope you find all the answers you need.
Heather

What a crappy summer, but at least you know what is going on, and hopefully things will get better soon. How fortunate you are to have been diagnosed at such a young age. I beleive I have had PCOS all my life, and I was just diagnosed in December at the age of 44! Welcome to the forum! I'm a newbie here also and love it! It's great to meet you, and look forward to hearing about your progress!
Hi SC Susie. Glad you found us - If you need anything we are all so very helpful and supportive of eachother. Most of us are now addicted to this site (I know I am) and I'm sure you will be too.
At least you got your answers now before symptoms take over too far for you. So good job for those doctors. Hugs for you for dealing with this all so well.
Have a great day
