Default Thought it was managed. No more??

Ok so I am about ready to pop.

To make a long story short, I have had varying issues with PCOS. The last being heavy, heavy cycles that would last forever and come frequently. About 3 years ago I started Progesterone and Metformin. The cycles became normal and for the most part it has been 3 years of bliss in that department.

Recently I have begun exercising and taking my diet seriously. Gone bad carbs, hello complex carbs. I have been losing weight and dropping sizes. So I would have thought that this would be extra re-enforcement to keeping my PCOS under control.

Well all of the sudden, on June the 8th here comes AF. I have been on a pretty good run at having AF between the 15th and 17th. But ok - it wants to be a little early this month. No biggie. It's normal flow and lasts it's 5-6 days. All good.

Then on June 25 AF arrives again, for a very unwelcomed visit. And it's HEAVY. Lots of blood clumps which I rarely have seen in the last 3 years. So far 3 funfilled days of this. It is like I am back to where I was.

So is this temporary? A one time deal? I don't know. Maybe i'm freaking for no good reason.

I would like to know if anyone else had had this issue? And possible causes?

Thanks for listening and for any insight.

Kat,
I'm, sorry that you are going through this. I went through something similar about a year ago when I started really losing weight and watching my diet VERY closely. I don't know what medications you are on specifically, but it may be time to revisit them. I found that the medication I was using to regulate AF ended up confusing my body and making me bleed when I shouldn't and not bleed when I should. Once I got off of it, things normalized and I now have a period every month, not like clockwork or anything, but I have one. I just got a lapband put in about a month ago and I've lost about 20 more pounds and I had to cut but one of all of my meds in half(one of which I have been on-same dose and everything for 13 years). Don't think that what used to work will always work, especially if you are taking control and getting your body in shape. Good Luck!!!

Hi Kismetkat, do you have any history of thyroid problems? Either low or high thyroid hormone levels can do a number on your menstrual cycling. It can also affect how much you bleed. I'm hypo and I notice my period doing odd things when my medication needs to be adjusted.

Thanks for the ideas. I suppose maybe now, at one of the most inconvenient times so far, what had been working is no longer.

I take 1000mg Metformin per day.
Novo-Medrone 10mg per day for first 14 days.

I will have to see my doctor and see about tweaking this. Unfortunately I highly doubt I will be able to get in to see him before all of my holidays. But I will try.

About 2 weeks ago I had a complete physical. Apparently my thyroid is fine as long as glucose levels.

Maybe it is just this one time, one can hope. except holiday's start next month and I would hate to find out it wasn't a one time thing then. Oh well. Move on I guess.

Thanks again!!
