Default Thyroid Nodule

Hello All! I have a question. All of my thyroid tests came back completely normal. However, I have one nodule on my thyroid that is less than 1 cm. My endo prescribed .025mg Synthroid for me to take daily.

Has anyone else had this? It seems strange that I would be taking this when my thyroid is fine.

hi twiggy! i'm about to be 23 years old, and i've have had a lump in my throat probably for the past 6 years. last year, a doctor forced me to get checked out, i had a lot of tests done, until finally, i was getting a biopsy and the doctor wanted to take a few cells out of my thyroid. he ended up draining out the "lump." my nodular turned out to be filled with cystic fluid. after about a week, it came back. i had it drained again and it came back again.

i don't know if this is what you have, but in my case, it will keep coming back until the source of the cyst is surgically removed. which i plan on getting done at some point. it's not dangerous to me, leaving it in and it's not causing me any problems breathing, i'm just very self conscious about it, because it looks kind of like a goyter. another way to get it removed is with alcohol shots, i looked into it very thoroughly and decided against this method because a lot of people end up with sort of a husky voice, since the alchohol can damage vocal chords.

are these sort of thyroid issues related to polycysic ovaries? because when i noticed this cyst was about the same time i noticed my symptoms: acne, hair where it wasn't supposed to be

Hi y'all- I'm 42 years old and was diagnosed with hypothyroid last year- I too,had nodules on both lobes of my thyroid and was put on synthroid-I was told that because the nodules were on both lobes my doc was 90% sure it wasn't cancer and I didn't need a biopsy .In March of '04 after demanding a biopsy, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer- Please go with your gut and if your doctor won't do what you ask- find one that will-

OMG thank you so much for posting. my nodule had stayed the same size for the whole 6 years, but i did have it checked out anyway. not sure of the names of the tests, but first i had a bood test, then an ultrasound, then i took capsules and came back the next day to have pictures taken of my thyroid, and finally the biopsy.

had you noticed you nodule getting larger? how long did you have them for?

Bec -How did your biopsy come out? I never even felt my nodules although by the time of my surgey they were just under 2.5cm- They were found during an ultrsaound after having bloods drawn- The doctor said once I started synthroid they should shrink, but of course they didn't, because they were cancerous-I'm happy to hear you had the biopsy-although a little uncomfortable, well worth being 100 % sure, right?

Hi All,
I just saw this thread and I find it ironic all the thyroid problems with pcos, 3 years ago this august, I had a total thyroidectomy because my dr found a nodule on my thyroid which did in fact turn out to be cancer. I went through the ultrasound then the biopsy and then the surgery. I am now on levoxyl 350mg everyday and still have so many problems. Anyway, I remember reading that the hormone imbalance can give thyroid problems. My endo told me that it is common for women's thyroids to have nodules in them and not to worry unless they grow or come up cancerous. Just make sure to check them out.

the results of my biopsy were negative to cancer (thank God) the doctor had the syringe in the my throat, and drained out all this liquid and he immediately knew what it was, but it went to labs anyway to be 100% sure. the only thing he did say that there's some chance of cancerous cells hiding behind the cyst which they can't check out until i have it removed. but he didn't dwell on it and didn't think it was that important for me to get it out. i will though, some time this year. i want to find a good surgeon who won't leave me with a bad scar accros my throat. all these test etc. happened about a year ago.

my nodule is very noticable, it's made up of cystic fluid. but it looks like i have a lump in my throat. people always comment on it. i think it's about 3cm. my situation must be different to you all, because i wasn't put on medication. the doctor didn't connect it to anything else. which i'm now questioning.
