Default thyroid nodules

I was recently diagnosed w/thyroid nodules. Does anybody know if these could be caused by PCOS. I have been convinced for a long time that something was wrong (in addition to the PCOS). Lately, I am just sooo darn tired (and it's not all from my 2yr old) & I have been gaining weight regardless of whatever I eat.

My ob/gyn (who discovered the thyroid), recommends I see a general surgeon, but my doctor/md recommends an endocrinologist first.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi, I too was diagnosed with thyroid nodules over 14mo ago. The first thing my dr did was an ultra sound then a RIU cat scan were they use a radioactive isotope to check thyroid function and what type of nodule it is(functioning/non-functioning, cancer/non cancer). This step is very important. An endocrinologist is very important however, you dr might want to make a decision between surgeon and endo based upon your results...either way you will still need the guidance of an endoc. I would rather the endoc make the decision. Not all nodules have to be removed. They are only removed if cancerous or causing esophageal obstruction. They can't remove the nodule, they have to remove the gland. Above all...don't worry, most nodules are benign. Mine is currently undetermined as too type. We know its non-functioning but not known if its cancerous or not because the tests could not determine that due to size(mine are small). I see an endoc and have thyroid ultra sounds every 3-6mo. I wish you all the best!
