Default Thyroid Problem??

The doctor's office confirmed to me today that my glucose blood test is normal (95) and the range for normal is (65 to 100).

The nurse happened to notice in my records that a thyroid test had been done also and the result was "a little high" - the normal range she said is 0.28 to 5.0 and my result was 5.9

She is calling me on Monday to tell me what the doctor says as she thinks I might need medication... This is the same doctor who did not test me for PCOS and told me I had it.

There was no mention of this in my test results in the mail and if I hadn't have called today I would be none the wiser...

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
emeritus

Your doctor needs to update his/her info. The new standards for thyroid are 0.3 to 3.04, meaning that you are well out of range and have hypothyroidism. They def. need to get you treated. Here are a few links to look at about the new standards. You may want to print them off and take them with you!

Good luck!

Thanks Stacie. I actually came across the "revised normal range" whilst reading yesterday but wanted someone to tell me for sure I suppose. It's strange but I do not feel tired at all. My hands and feet are cold sometimes, I have put on weight but I have lost 19lbs since January and have another 30lbs to lose. I am also irritable but I put this down to PCOS symptoms and was starting to think the Yasmin bcp they put me on 2 weeks ago would take care of those hormonal imbalances.

I am really starting to wonder if this doctor is too busy with other duties to read my test results/treat me properly. As he is head of the department my husband just said to me he may have junior doctors/residents doing his work for him while he teaches at the University Hospital. I know this is all speculation, however.

I'll wait til Monday and see what the nurse says but I think I may be better off finding a Reproductive Endocrinologist to take charge. This is what I originally thought in my first post on this website but I think I need to be referred to one??

I'm not sure of your location or insurance, but yes, in many cases you need a referral. Check your insurance though, because sometimes you don't! My insurance does not require a referral, but I know a lot do.

Good luck! Def. think about seeing an RE. They should have the most up to date info on PCOS and hypothyroidism.
