Question Thyroid Question???

Hi Ladies!!

I went to the doctor on Monday to have my fasting insulin and glucose levels checked again, and while I was there I asked if she would mind doing a complete thyroid panel. Well the nurse called yesterday with my results, my insulin level in Oct. of last year was 24.3 and on Monday it was 23.7, so not much change there. They upped my dosage of Metformin to 2250 mg. Which seems like a lot to me. The nurse also explained that on my thyroid panel 3 out of the 4 tests came back abnormal. I am not completely sure if she said my TSH level was normal or if it was something else. When I received the call, it was on my cell phone and I was in and out of crackling service. Now my question is this... If my TSH level is the one that is normal and the others are abnormal what would that mean? The nurse asked me if I had an Endocronologist, but I don't, so she said she would have to consult with the doctor and get back with me. I still have not heard anything, and I am antsy to know what is going on with that part of my body. If anyone has any information about what the abnormal part of the test might mean I would apperciate your knowledge. Also, do they treat this with medication? and does the medication cause a lot of side effects? Thanks a lot to everyone!!

Without knowing which tests they ran, it's really hard for anyone to answer you. I would think, though, that if 3 of 4 were abnormal, it would indicate you might need to start medication for your thyroid.

Hi Somewhat Damaged! Thanks for your input. The only thing I was told over the phone is the TSH, T3, and T4 levels, but that's as far as my information goes. I wish I could see the actual hard copy test results, but my doctor is over a hour and half away, so I don't want to make a trip just for a copy until hopefully they can come to some final conclusion. I certainly appreciate your help!
