Default Thyroid Removal....Your Opionions Wanted!

I will make a very long story short. I have been hypo for about 8 years now. I have been on .75 synthroid since being diagnosed and have not had any problems. I have not had any hypo symptoms.

I have a son who was conceived with out assistance (fertility). I decided to have another child and could not get pregnant. In May 2006, I was diagnosed with PCOS. I cannot remember ever having symptoms, etc. I am on Met. 1500 mg and have not had a period in six months.

I went to my endo for a routine check and he recommended a thyroid scan and routine blood tests. Scan showed two nodules and blood test revealed Hashimoto's disease. My endo upped my Synthroid to 100 mg. I had the nodules biopsied and the test came back inconclusive. They are being sent to another pathologist for review. My endo says that inflammed tissue (hashi) is hard to biopsy.

I believe that my endo is leaning toward removing the right side of my thyroid. I am relunctant and want to know your opinion.

Has anyone had part of the thyroid removed?

Were you better off or worse off?

What have been your experiences? Feelling better? Feeling sick? Weight gain?

I would love to hear from you!

I had my thyroid removed due to Thyroid Cancer, I also had Hasi's. Prior to removal, I was on the lowest dose of Synthroid and all my blood work came back great every time...but I never felt great. Since the treatment of my thyroid cancer I have felt SO MUCH better. My periods were never regular, and this Fall is the first time I have been off the pill in the last 4 years (since trying to get pregnant 4 years ago and all my thyca stuff), and my cycle has been EXACTLY 30 days. A first for me. I would definatley research it and ask your doctor any questions you have about it. Hasi's will most likely eventually kill your entire thyroid if not treated.

www.endocrineweb.com is one of my favorite endocrine sites. Here are some more sites that can provide more info for you:
