thyroid test/symptoms - help? I don't really know how to go about asking this, but I'll try... Hypothyroidism runs in my dad's side of the family in the women. When my mom was describing some of my health problems to my dad's sister, she suggested I go get an ultra sensitive TSH test because some of my symptoms were similar to hers. She said that her hypo did not show up on the regular test, but once the problem was finally discovered the medication made a world of difference for her right away!
So I went in to ask my doctor. The doc did not give me the test I asked for, but just a regular TSH test and T3, T4. I don't have the other numbers, but my TSH was 5.5 with 8+ being out of normal range (or something like that). I'm sorry I don't remember the details or specifics, argh! The doc said that I was ok, right in the middle. But I read articles here about "normal" range being much lower than that. Is that right?
When I went to see an endo specialist about PCOS I mention the thyroid and he just looked at the old chart and repeated that it was in normal range. Should I have asked for the ultra sensitive test? Wouldn't an endo know if that really is a good number or not? I just don't know. I have been low carbing, excercising and taking met, and even with my insulin resistance lower and losing weight, I don't feel much better at all. I keep sort of wondering if they are missing something...and then wondering if I am just wishing for something out there to make me feel better. Anyone have any answers or suggestions?
Also do any of you have shaking/trembling as a symptom?
