Default Thyroid treatment and bcp

Hi! I've got a quick question: Can birth control pills affect thyroid treatment? I was finally considered "euthyroid" on 88mcg Synthroid, and then I started taking Yaz a month ago. Now, I am feeling a bit HYPERthyroid. Can this be? Thank you!

I was just looking at WebMD's little blurb about synthroid and it does say to notify your doctor if you are taking estrogen-containing birth control pills along with synthroid. it doesn't say what the interaction could cause but it might be worth talking to your doctor about!

Birth control pills can somtimes interfere with the absorption of Synthroid and being on BCP may cause you to have a higher dose of Synthroid. Can take take them together, but make sure that you ALWAYS take your Synthroid the same way everyday.

When I started taking Yaz, I had about a week of feeling hyperthyroid. It was weird, but I got a lot of cleaning done around the house! I chalk the rush up to another hormone in my body and my body freaking out

Cynthia, did you end up having to increase your dosage after the initial hormonal "rush"?

No, but I was on BCP (a different brand) when I started Synthroid years ago. I have only had adjustments in my meds when my blood work is off. As long as your endo knows you are on BCP, s/he will keep tabs on your dose.
