Default Time changes...

Hubby has a new job and omg my sleep schedule is non-existant right now. He is working 2nd shift with an hour commute right now one way and I'm working for a school so obviously I have a day job.

Anyway, the sleep schedule has messed up everything in my infertile "everything has to happen at exactly the same time" world. I haven't temped at all this month just because I can't have a three hour span of sleep uninterrupted.

On to the met issue.... I can't get back in the swing of things as far as taking met on time now. I used to take it in the morning and then at night before bed. Now my bedtime is sporadic and I can't remember to take it. Can I take two pills at one time and it not mess with me too bad? Like for instance, I take my morning pill at the same time still and if I miss it for whatever reason two hours after I'm supposed to take it I get all jittery and grumpy and cloudy like.

My body is so confused and frustrated and horrible right now and I can't make up my mind as to what to do. I'm just not sure if taking it two at once will unbalance things or not (as if it isn't unbalanced already!). Any advice???

Hi ArianC,

I thought it was important to spread the time between taking Metformin tablets. Usually one in morning and one at night, but technically this just means one with one meal and the second with another meal. leave a good gap inbetween. I only say this because my Gyno said it was important to space them out. I was actually told it was quite dangerous to take the whole dose together but I'm not sure how true this is. I think it applies to people taking Metformin for Diabetes.

I was informed to take the largest mg dose tablet first and then smallest mg dose last.

Anywho that is just my experience with Met, I guess my only advice would be to leave at least 6-8 hours between each dose, but take them at any time during the day.

Could you maybe time them with meals? One with breakfast and one with dinner? The time I usually take my second dose varies by an hour or two and I haven't noticed any bad results from doing that.

Why don't your try Metformin XR.

You take all your tablets once a day. Most people say evening meal as its the biggest.

That way you have to only remember it OnCE a day at dinner. Works for me. I have it on the table staring at me so I don't forget.

I went through that with my Met ER (I take all three pills at the same time). I was taking at dinner, but I would forget and I ate dinner at such varied times. Then, I thought lunch, so I started taking them at lunch since I have lunch at noon each day. Great idea, until I got busy and started to work through lunch too much or would forget to take my pills to work. I have settled on breakfast now. It is the only meal that is consistent and I don't have to worry about remembering to take my meds with me. I would suggest that you pick the best time for you and try to make it a habit.

Also, during my various switches and forgetfulness, my BG was not dramatically affected, if that relieves your mind some.

Best of luck.

I cant tolerate it all at once-too many GI effects-there is a glucophage XL 1000 mg tab-may be more expensive but it is time released....
