Exclamation Tingling in hand and neck pain...

I've had some tingling in my left hand for almost a week. No pain really, just the pins and needles sensation like it won't wake up completely. Last night at work, I started having some neck pain. It's tender to touch and movement. Even hanging my stethoscope around my neck hurt. Now the pain is going down the middle of my back. It hurts to move my shoulders and my head. Do you think they're connected since the tingling started almost a week before the pain? I thought I pulled a muscle in my back/side from throwing up Saturday morning, but this pain is in a different spot and started over 12 hours later. I know I need to see a doctor, and maybe I'll call tomorrow, but it's so hard with my work schedule. I'm on call tonight, and God willing, I won't get called in at midnight. Some people from work said it sounds like a pinched nerve. I know it's driving me crazy whatever it is. Any ideas? TIA!

It could be a pinched nerve, it could be neuropathy assoc with diabetes, it could be a warning sign of heart problems, it could be a number of things. I would try taking advil or something like that and see if it helps with the pain in your neck. If it doesn, then I would say it is a pinched nerve because of some swelling. My dh has herniated discs in his back and everyonce in a while, he will get some swelling and pain. The advil helps with both. I hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon. I hope you get some answers when you see the doc tomorrow...

In the past several months, I've had a pretty thorough work up. I had a CBC, CMP, thyroid. All kinds of stuff. Everything was normal. My blood sugar is always ok. I check it at work now and then between lab work. It's usually in the 70s to 80s. Not sure if the neck and back pain are related to the tingling hand or too much partying Friday night. (Which is what led to the puking Saturday morning). But usually when the pain is from something like that, I'm sore when I wake up.

I have actually had very similar symptoms. What it turned out was REFERED pain from a nerve in my shoulder/chest/underarm. I'm not 100% sure where it is because there are trigger points in all of those areas for it - I used massage for it. For me, my massage therapist said there is a muscle that originates AND attaches on the clavicle, and it can cause all sorts of problems. The tingling in the hand and sore neck are what make me suspect it. She also told me I needed better bras, because I have fairly large breasts, and the weight can put stress on that nerve and cause those problems.

Try pressing around your chest, above your breast, below the clavicle, near the underam. Poke around the whole area, and see if it is tender/sore/numb or anything. I could be totally wrong, but if I'm not, that area will be sensitive. Massage will help a lot.

i had a similar thing, though i had tingling in my legs too. i have pain in my middle upper back, which spreads across my shoulderblades and up my neck at times. the pain is now moving around my body. my doctors are coming to the conclusion that i have fibromyalgia, but i need to make an appointment for an MRI to make sure it's nothing else that's causing it. not sure if it's FM that you're suffering from, but here are the symptoms if you want to read up.

best wishes and hope you feel better soon!

I was dx with fibromyalgia and my gp and my endo both didn't agree with the dx. I was having extreme joint pain all over my body and very very very fatigued. I was in so much pain and so exhausted, that I couldn't hardly get out of bed in the mornings. About a week or two after my endo put me on met, I felt so much better. I am on 2000mg now and I am a totally different person than I was a month and half ago. I can't believe how much better I feel. Anyway, my endo told me the pain was associated with PCOS. I didn't know who to believe at first, now I believe it was assoc with PCOS. This came after I spent many many hundreds of dollars on tests for fibro...Good luck and I hope you feel better soon...
