Just thought I'll share this with you.
I feel tired all the time, no energy whatsoever. Can't sleep well for a couple of months now, in fact hardly sleep at all. Feel depressed pretty much about everything- my looks, periods, often become stressed when I think about not being able to get pregnant whenever I'm ready to start a family, pain in my pelvic area, things that are going on in the family, and the weather isn't helping either.
Getting terrible mood swings- one minute I'm ok. next I feel like raging! And just not in the mood to do anything.
Having some suicidal thoughts as well.
Started counselling two weeks ago, hoping that will help me with suicidal thoughts that are due to my family problems.
Does any of you have any suggestions on how to get the energy back and is there anything that would help with depression apart from pills? As well anything that will get me sleeping again?
Would be very thankful!

Do you get regular exercise? I know when I am feeling the worst, regular exercise always helps me feel better. Even if it is just a short walk. There are also a lot of books about dealing with things naturally. The ones I have are more for anxiety, but I am sure you could find some on depression. Let me know if you want the some of the titles of the books I have.

i often get the same feelings as you but you have to try and concentrate on the positives rather than the things that are bringing you down otherwise your life just becomes not worth living. try cheering yourself up with something you enjoy to take your mind off the things that upset you. like today i was feeling upset about my weight and felt like i looked terrible so i went out and i brought myself a new outfit and a pair of matching shoes and i felt alot better becuase new clothes always make me feel better. do something you enjoy when you feel down it is a great way of amking yourself feel good.
i also get this way alot!! the doc put me on the lowest form of anti depressents and i have to say it has helped me get through a lot of the bad things that have come my way recently. i never wanted to go on them, because of the stigma of them but when i have spoken to people about it it seems like half the nation are on them! lol. bad things happen all the time, its so easy for people to say oh cheer up i dont know whats the matter with u, i find thats the most aggrevating thing anyone can say when ur not in a good mood! lol however like sarahlou said try to find somethin u enjoy doing and findin some time for urself! thats the main thing. some good old me time to get away from it all. i was so fed up i even went on hols to ibiza on me own a couple of weeks ago. i had the best most relaxin time eva, as soon as i got home through the front door it started all over again! lol ya cant win! anyways we are all here for each other! xx

Unfortunately, exercise also helps me feel better about myself and have more energy. Sends all those lovely chemicals to the brain and what not!
Are you taking any supplements for your energy? Have you had your Vitamin D level tested? I have a problem with energy and getting my Vitamin D level up helped me immensely. I don't know if that would work for you though. ^^

I'm twenty-one, newly single, recently diagnosed, and fighting for a direction in my life. Just started acupuncture for my PCOS, as well as supplements.
I'm with you Jo.....the energy thing I had problem with it for a while but since taking B 100 and brewer's yeast everyday I am much better.for the sleep I do Hatha yoga just before the bed time and its helping alot.one other thing I noticed that I couldnt sleep when my progesterone level was too low.last month I was on medroxy P for 7 days and I've to say I was sleeping like a baby.the same thing happened this month, didnt get AF for 50 days and I eneded up using npc,I had AF after only 8 days and I could sleep forever if I didnt need to go work.
BUT for depression and suicidal thoughts .I haven't figured out anything.mine gets worse during my period.and whenever I think my hormones get too low.
it starts with sth like my recent hair loss or my look or anything abt this damn pcos.I keep telling myself it will be alright but at the end of the day I go nuts, crying and I end up taking anxiety pill.
let me know how the couselling goes.my dr suggested it but personally I think its useless.I know what my problem is.right now hair loss.
I just dont see the point of counselling.

hiya missus
what's hatha yoga? i've never heard of it.
i'm about to get my period, well i think i am, because i keep getting these cramps, as well as i've noticed some staining today, so fingers crossed!! ( i haven't had my periods since august, when i stopped the pill.)
i'm the same thing, i keep trying to tell myself that i'll be fine, and then eventually i just get so frustrated and fed up with it all. but i suppose i shouldnt be complaining, seeing as i'm only 19, and theres still quite a lot of time for me to get it sorted.. while theres women alot older than me, as well as those who are TTC, who are trying their best...
as for the counselling, i'm doing because i'm having a real hard time when it comes to my family matters, so far it seems to be helping talking about, i dont feel as angry after each session, as well as i find good to talk to my counsellor about my pcos, and how it makes me feel,..
as for the hairloss, have you ever heard of Perfectil? its a vitamin complex for your skin, nails and hair, my mother has this same problem and seems to help her alot.
take care!xx

Yoga does help with sleep and with improving how you feel overall...I took a class last year and loved it.
I have used melatonin in the past to help with sleep issues...it worked very well for me.
5-HTP and SAM-e are worth checking into to ease depression symptoms. They take a few weeks to "kick in" and give you a noticeable difference. I'm taking 5-HTP right now...nothing in my life has changed, but I've discovered I can handle it...and I'm starting to feel "good".
B-vitamins are super for energy...and mood.
I recently discovered Emergen-C......its a powder you mix with a small glass of water...orange flavored (there are others)....it is loaded with vitamin C and tons of B vitamins. I LOVE IT. I feel like I want to get up and do something for a change.
I'm glad counseling is helping you. You are taking positive steps to improve things already. :-) *hugs to you*

as for the books and stuff I'll try and do some research, and I defnately wouldn't mind the titles of those books if you don't mind
The books I have are all about coping with anxiety since that is my major problem. They are:
Natural Relief for Anxiety by Edmund J. Bourne, Arlen Brownstein, and Lorna Garano
The 10 Best-Ever Anxiety Management Techniques by Margaret Wehrenberg
Mastery of Your Anxiety and Panic by David H. Barlow and Michelle G. Craske
The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook by Edmund J. Bourne
Coping with Anxiety by Edmund J. Bourne and Lorna Garano
I didn't look at the authors necessarily when I was buying my books. The frist 3 I bought were the ones by Edmund J. Bourne. I realized that they all pretty much said the same thing, so I started looking for other books and I realized that all the books I had were written by the same person. They are still really good books, I just wanted other strategies. Like I said, these are all about anxiety. I hope that they are helpful, or you are able to find some that help you.

I hate pills too, but herbal remedies have been amazing for me.
Have you ever tried 5-HTP for mood enhancement? Or GABA or Melatonin for more restful sleep?
All of them are natural hormones found in the body and can be found in supplement form at most health food stores. Though no supplement has ever made anything perfect, I find that those I listed have always helped me out. =)
no, i not taking any supplements for my energy, the only supplements i'm trying to take are omega 3:6:9 and milk thistle. and no i haven't had my Vit d levels tested. could that really be the problem?
I think there can be numerous reasons for low energy, even multiple reasons per person. I'm on an ongoing journey to discover the 'perfect' solution for my energy lows, aside from good diet and exercise. I'm learning as I go along. I can only speak from my personal experience and I don't want to throw you into the wrong direction, so I cautiously give advice.
One of my personal issues was a very, very low Vitamin D count. After I got it tested, I took about 16,000 mg of it for four months and it went up. Definitely helped me feel a little better. The test doesn't cost too much either, or nothing at all depending on your insurance. I would mention it the next time you have a blood panel done. C=
