I have a strong odor of heavy metal, like iron, during my periods even when just barely spotting. Is this normal? I hadnt ever really thought about it but DH mentioned it Anyways, sorry for the TMI!
most women i know have some kind of odor during their period. i've never heard specifically about the heavy metal smell. have u checked in with your doctor about it? You might want to try Tampax Pearl scented tampons. i hardly get my period anymore but when i do they help.

I notice this too. I think it is just the smell of the blood. I have noticed that my blood tastes like that too (especially when I had a lot of blood from my wisdom teeth coming out). I would recommend scented tampons too. My mom always told me not to use them but I feel much better when I do. Periods are so nasty, I hate them.

Well that would make sense right, we store iron in our blood and we become anemic if we bleed to much from the loss of iron. If its that strong maybe you should check with your Dr to make sure your not losing too much iron when you cycle. Dr may have you take iron pills if you need them. Otherwise, I'm with the ladies above if you can tolerate sented tampons its worth a try.
I may be alone on this one but...does anyone get a sort of...dirty gym sock kind of odor??? Sorry if TMI. That's the only thing I can liken it to right off hand. I'm on my period right now and I'm noticing it.
its definitly the iron in your blood. personally...the scented tampax gross me out. you can smell them through the box in the store aisle. ick! i think it makes me smell worse.
something that works for me....taking a bath/showering more than once a day to rinse the area. it also helps clean your pubic hair if you get blood in it. that may help reduce the odor.
Just word to the wise... I have tried the scented tampons. And if you are sensitive in that area I would recommend not using them. My hootie-hoo gets very irritated. So I can't use them.

Amen to that! No scented tampons for my va-jay-jay! For some reason they give me a yeast infection. I also have an irony type odor during my cycles. I use a douche once a month (vinegar & water) but you don't want to use these often because they aren't always good for your body, pushing bacteria up inside your stuff. I'm just extremely sensitive & also have a paranoia of not smelling nice because of being a BBW.
