Question TMI? Does lack of cervical mucus indicate anovulation?

While reading another thread, it suddenly occurred to me that I cannot remember the last time I had the type of cervical mucus you get around ovulation. I haven't paid any attention to ovulation since I'm 40 with two kids, no hubby and no guy in my life at the moment...Is this likely a sign that I haven't ovulated for a long time? I still have regular periods, but they are short and intense, which was not the norm for me until the last couple of years.

Not necessarily. Some ladies ovulate, but never have enough CM to even notice. Your body could be preparing for later menopause by producing less CM, but still ovulating.

the thing is, I can't remember the last time I noticed it, it may have well been before my youngest was born in 2000. and that was my early 30's....I was on a hormonal IUD for almost 5 years after she was born and nothing since....don't know how much those can affect the system.

Hormones can def. cause changes to CM, since CM is regulated by your natural hormones. Other meds including sinus pills can cause a drop in CM, as can a deficit in certain vitamins or minerals.

So can you have the mucus change without ovulating?

I had periods of sticky and eggwhite CM throughout my anovulatory cycles....so yes, it's possible.

That is what I thought. I was hopeful that somehow I was ovulating, but I really knew that I wasn't. I always had the discharge at the right time. I have lost 15 lbs total so far, so hopefully I will stast ovulating soon!

That's what it took for me. I lost 65lbs in 4 months....after the second month (about 30lbs) I started ovulating and getting my periods on time. I started my diet in September 2004, and got pregnant in late January 2005, after we had been TTC for 3 years without success. I gave up and focused on getting healthy...and here I am not even 3 years later, PG with #3! For a lot of cysters, weight loss IS the key to getting their hormones on track...it's just not an easy key.

my issue was more that I do have a regular period, short and intense, but I was trying to figure out if I was ovulating every month or not at all in spite of having a period. I just couldn't remember seeing the mucus for a very long time. I sometimes get a bit of discomfort or aches etc around mid month, however. My oldest daughter started getting her period 2.5 years ago (at age 11.5!), and I know I synchronized with her last year....so I have a theory that if she weren't around, I might not be having a period regularly.....that her pheromones might be holding me on cycle each month. Needless to say, at 40, I'm not in the TTC boat! got my hands full with two as it is!

I am 41 and up till 4 months ago, I was ovulating and having a regular period. I have not ovulated or had a period for 4 months. I always know when I ovulate. I am diabetic and have pcos but up until 4 months ago I have been regular. Now I take that back. I was on a 28 day cycle like clockwork for years and then a couple of years ago it started to be longer and longer between cycles. Like this is the pattern; 28 days, 35, 28, 40, 28, 50. Never have I gone 4 months and not ovulated. Even when my period was getting longer in between times I always ovulated. So what could be wrong with me? Thanks

So can you have the right cm and still be anovulatory?

Not easy at all. I don't understand why I am not ovulating because I was only 25 lbs overweight. I lost 15 so I am only 10 away from my goal. I guess 25 over can do it.
