Sorry I know this is TMI, but I have such problems with tampons. Granted, AF has always been very irregular and infrequent, but I don't think it's related to my lack of experience. It seems like I can't get the thing up high enough. After I put it in, I can always feel it right at the entrance to my vagina, and I've read to try to push it in a little bit but that is very uncomfortable. It is possible I have a short vagina?? I really don't know what else to do. Thanks, and again sorry for TMI, but if you can't talk to your cysters, who can you talk to? LOL

I know..I know..I have the same problem..but I use tampax compac and I find they are easier to wedge up there (so to speak). They are the only tampons I can use..give em' a try!
It might not be a "short" vagina it could be that your vaginal canal isnt as "tight" for lack of a better word, than others. My girlfriend who has never had kids, isnt able to keep a tampon in, once its in and absorbs only a little she can too, feel it falling out.
But then again it could be a "short" vaginal area, however I havent heard of that, but then again im a nurse not a doctor Do you do kegal exercises? Even women even those who havent had kids should do them. Other than that you may want to consult your doctor.

I guess it could be a tightness problem, but even putting in the tampon is uncomfortable. I can feel it hitting my cervix...not a great feeling as I'm sure you know.

They HURT! It feels like sandpaper up inside me. I tried them a few times before marriage and a couple times after... guess sexual activity didn't make the difference for me because they still hurt.
Sometimes I'd really like to have the option of tampons, but I guess it isn't to be.
Sarabelle, when you feel it hitting your cervix, what exactly does it feel like? I'm wondering because i think i hit mine every time i use a tampon, but since i'm a virgin and all that, i have no idea what it feels like to hit my cervix. Is it just a REALLY uncomfortable feeling (kinda like when you go to have a pap smear)? That's what i feel every time i use a tampon.

Leavin the site now due to new diagnosis...Thanks for all the support while I've been here!
I have trouble when I try to use Tampax Tampons - they are super long and for some reason I have that uncomfortable feeling when I wear them - they don't fit right! I have found that I can easily wear the Playtex Regular size tampons, and the "Slim Fit" versions as well. They are the only tampons I can wear! Try them out! Amy
hobbitcutie...It's kind of hard for me to describe. It's just when I'm putting it in, and it won't go any further (which is basically as far as you're supposed to insert the tampon...you know how the directions say to insert all the way up to the "grip"?) and it's a very uncomfortable almost painful feeling right in the pit of my pelvic area. If you think you're hitting it, you probably are. And actually when I have sex, it feels the same way, so I know that's what it is.
I have tried Playtex and Tampex and I actually like the "Pearl" ones - can't remember which brand - the best but they all have the same problem.
Patty - I like pads better too for the same reason, but when I do get AF, it's like it doesn't stop and always overflows the pad. So I figure if I wear a tampon and a pad I'll be covered.

Sometimes if you can twist it a little, or point in towards your rear-end, it will go in further. I know when I first started using them they wouldn't go in all the way, but if you can work with it a little and try different angles, then it will probably go in. Maybe not, but you could try. Hope that helps a little

I have had this same problem and I thought that I was the only one. If a lack of tightness is the problem then that doesn't tell me why it won't go in. When I force it further it hurts and I have to start all over again. Have you been out in public walking around with your tampon feeling like it's falling out. It hurts and it feels like it's rubbing your skin off down there. The only time I don't have a problem is when I get out of the shower and your all wet down there so I was thinking that maybe it's a lubricant problem. What do you all think?
I feel really sorry for you all with this problem---Have you tried standing up with your leg on the bathtub or toilet when you do it. RELAX. When I was in 7th grade I coached my freshman cousin into tampon insertion, though she was so uptight she couldn't do it and maybe your muscles are to tense because of stress. Also if the flow is to light, it may be a problem too. I am also a platex user, can't deal with tampax for some reason.....If you already tried the slimfits I don't know what else to suggest, cept I think tampax may make them for teenagers.

I don't know for anyone else that's having problems too, but for me I know it's not a problem of tensing up. It goes in fine, but once it gets to a certain point I hit my cervix and it hurts. Thanks to everyone who has responded so far. Really appreciate it!

Sarabelle, yes you can have a short vagina. Most women have a medium/regular sized one, but some have a long or short one. It is part of nature. My suggestion would be to check if it is indeed short by measuring it. Use some thing sterile, smooth and long. You can use your finger, though most people's fingers are not long enough to get a true measurement. If you can get the whole finger in and feel your cervix opening, will feel like a small hole at the end of a hard tube. Use the middle finger as it is the longest. It is the only real safe way to measure unless you go to the doctor and address the issue with them.
Quote:
A vagina can be either relaxed or aroused. When it is relaxed the walls are collapsed against each other and the cervix lays closer to the front. When it is aroused the cervix pulls up and the vagina walls open apart. This makes the vagina longer and wider.
Whether relaxed or aroused, the vagina walls are very elastic and can stretch enormously in length and in width. The difference is that stretching them while relaxed will cause discomfort or pain whereas stretching them during arousal causes pleasure (up until a certain limit of course!)
Average Vagina Size
Women, like men, come in many sizes. So if you are sexually active and the man has an average penis and sex hurts, then it is likely that you have a small vagina. Same would go for a large penis v med vagina.
If you find out though measurment that you don't have a small vagina, but rather a regular one, then you are probably just putting the tampon in at the wrong angle. Just take some of the suggestions the other ladies have given. Always, no matter what size you are, use the smallest obsorbtion possible, don't want to risk TSS.
Im not sure what the problem is, but I would recommend trying Kotex Security of OB (with an applicator) brand. I wear tampons all the time (that is, when I have AF which is rarely) BUT when I first started I wore Tampax and Playtex and had TONS of problems. For some reason, both seem to expand longways and I had leaks and they never stayed high enough, etc. etc. It was awful. They would feel like there were hitting my cervix AND falling out, and when I would remove them they looked four inches long or something! WHOA! However, I have been VERY happy with Kotex brand and they never get longer, which for me is much more comfortable. I have tried OB and they are pretty good too.
GOOD LUCK! I can't imagine having to wear pads all the time. Maybe you could try the Keeper or the Diva Cup.
