Hello. I was just passing through these boards and reading through some of the posts and I have a question.
I saw a thread from a couple of years ago about TMJ and it seems a lot of ladies (at the time) suffered with it. My question is, if you do suffer from TMJ is it linked with you PCOS in some way?
Some researches think TMJ is hormone based, and since PCOS is hormone based, it can be linked...plus there are just TOO MANY of us with TMJ!!!

I have never heard PCOS related in any way to TMJ... I'm not saying that its not possible, but my doctor has never made that connection with me. My TMJ comes from me grinding my teeth at night too, and clinching my jaw thru the day... I don't see how that has anything to do with my PCOS... But I could be wrong... Wouldn't be the first time.
PS Guys can get TMJ too... So, I don't see how it could be linked to PCOS exclusively...

yeah, guys get it too, but "90% of people seeking TMJ treament are women in their childbearing years"...I think that came from my second link...

Oh I understand that... I read the article you posted. I was just pointing out that I don't think its related to PCOS *exclusively*.

I also suffer from TMJ.Last year I ended up having surgery after 16 yrs of pain.A dr finally figured out that my cartilage in between the jaw bone came loose and wasnt where is was supposed to be.So they re-connected it and I am much happier tho I still have problems sometimes.
Exactly. Although I haven't been diagnosed, I suspect I might have PCOS (I definitely have hormone issues re: irregular periods and adult acne) and suddenly last year I developed a TMJ problem.
I read that bruxism might be a symptom of a magnesium deficiency -- and magnesium is a key thing for women's hormone balance, so there might be a connection there.
I'm more of a "clencher" than a grinder, but I did find that after starting to regularly take hot baths with epsom salts -- which are basically magnesium -- I started having much less difficulty with the clenching.
I love the epsom salt baths -- even my elbows and heels are soft now, when nothing else ever worked for that.
