Well I talked to my co worker and his friend works in the lab in the hospital and he can take all my blood and give me results on the spot. He can even give me a copy of the lab work. I'm so excited. The only problem is that I don't have a doctor to basically tell me whether or not it is what I think it is.
So if the tests results come up as matching the ones that are on the Newbie thread and I know for sure about my cycle, new hair growth on my face, and the oily hair and skin and so on, is it safe to say I have PCOS? What I'm worrying about is if this means PCOS then how can I get treatment if I don't have a doctor? I mean if I knew what I needed I could ask for it, but I'm pretty sure that I need a certain amount as in mg. or something. Since my fiance's mom is a nurse in the same hospital she can get me the medications no problem, its the amount, or whatever you call it. So I'm hoping that all goes well.
Speaking of hair I need to take my shower, oily hair, yuck.

Well the guy totally forgot that he couldn't do it Friday so I go in today for the tests. Man I hate having to fast though. I just made a 5 hour apple cake and yes it does take the whole 5 hours. Of course it finishes baking at 1 a.m. Horrible timing. I can smell it now.

good luck with your test. Yeah, fasting is hard and it's never fun getting poked with needles, even if the person doing it is very gentle.

Man my luck must be running out because I can't get a hold of my friend. I think he totally forgot about today. I'm not going to eat until I get a hold of him though. Which is a pain, but still.

I am sad to say that my results are all normal. Now I don't know what to do. I mean I have the physical symptoms why won't my blood work show it? I'm so disappointed.

I may not be up to date with this, but have they done the ultrasound to look for cysts? My doc told me that can be a huge indicator! (if you have and I'm just reading this late...oops!)

No I haven't. I don't have insurance to go to a doctor so I definetaly can't afford an Ultrasound. I know many women with PCOS don't have cysts; so what happens then? I mean if I don't have cysts and everything is normal on the blood test then what do I have? This is bugging me so much.
Also if I have like one cyst will that mean that eventually I can have PCOS, or does that mean that I just have a cyst. I know more than one is polycystic for obvious reasons, but just wanted to know.

You can have pcos without cysts? Ok my logic is escaping me this morning but..
I too have normal blood results and I have cysts seen on ultrasound so it is possible. I'm going tomorrow morning for more bloodwork my endo missed.

well I went to the gyno, convinced I had PCOC...all my bloodwork came back normal. The initial reports from the ultrasound were normal too.
However, when I had a chance to sit down with my gyno he explained that while my bloodwork was normal, it was skewed towards the high end of normal...and that he could indeed see some very very tiny cysts on the ultrasound image. He told me that the findings paired with my history of acne, unwanted hair, a hard time losing weight, times when I'd have no period at all then very very heavy ones all pointed to PCOS so he diagnosed me with it.
Some states have low cost programs for women, maybe you could check into that, see if you have a womens' health clinic in your area, they might be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck, I hope you can find the help you are looking for.

I have finally got insurance thanks to Kotik82! Thank you so much for your connections. Well I'm on a roll now! Of course now my period has returned to "normal" as in I get it every month but for only a few days. Does that mean that I can rule out PCOS?
