Exclamation Today's News

I was just watching the news while having my lunch. Apparently the medical
evidence is in that HRT is not only not helpful, but can be downright
dangerous longterm. The on-going study cites increases in heart attacks,
stroke, blod clotting and breast cancer among the group recieving the HRT
was higher than among the control group who were recieving the placebo. The
rate was high enough that ethics demanded the study be halted. They are
asking women who recieve HRT to see their doctors and to consider halting
the treatment. Although the increased risk was relatively slight, the risk
is significant considering the high number of women who chose HRT. For
women who are menopausal HRT is still to be considered as a treatment for
symptoms, but only short term as the risk increases with amount of time she
will take the medication.

Scarey stuff. For so long HRT was believed to be helpful in the very areas
it has proven dangerous.

I'm going to share this article with my MIL. She is on HRT, not to mention blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds.

My mom went through menopause over 20 years ago and only did HRT for 1 week because it caused her to bleed like a full and heavy AF. My mom is healthy as a horse because she doesn't believe in taking tons of meds for every ailment.

Thanks for the article Mags!

HI all- Just wanted to say that even though I was not taking HRT for menopause, I thought I would let you know that strokes and such can happen from synthetic hormones-i.e. HRT and BCP's. When I was 23, I took BCP for only 9 months and ended up having a stroke. It was a long recovery, but I was VERY lucky and have only minor residual problems-but nothing to complain about. So, be careful with any of that stuff. I know many women take it with no problems and I am grateful for that, but I was one of the unfortunate "possibly" could happen that the doctors quickly brush over with their patients-so when they say possible-it really is! Now, I am not allowed any type of hormones for BCP or HRT for the rest of my life-which is fine by me. Hope it doesn't sound like I am lecturing, cause really trying not to sound that way, so I will stop now
